It is like the 'Peter Principle' that one rises to one's level of

incompetency. However that doesn't preclude learning a new level of

competency. It is the development of vasanas and ultimately samkaras

so that one'w awareness can rise. The gross material definition

would be the development of axyons and dendrites in the brain to

process the information.

So I agree with you on the point made as applying to animals as

well. For to say a human with an IQ of 90, near the average, is

superior to a monkey or other animal with an IQ of 80 is superior is

purely specious specism.....Awareness and intelligence are not the

same thing but are ultimately linked, as samskaras develop....ONS
