Guest guest
Namste,IMO, Many time a mantra is a yantra or tool. They are very psychological and essentially are used for concentration. The mind being a bundle of thoughts the mantra displaces other thoughts by overwhelming them. The same system is used in psychotherapy to some extent where negative thining is overwhelmed by positive thoughts. The negatives are still there as is every thought but they are outnumbered and overwhelmed. OM is an interesing one for it has no image really, but for most people any mantra would work even humpty dumpty fell off the wall. Concentration induces a certain amount of relaxation and self- hypnosis anyway. Your own belief system on how they work is probably the most important factor. It is all mind programming anyway, and so it is important to figure what you want and then select the mantra. Soham=I am he! is dualistic, in subjects. Koham=Who am I? Asks the question..non dual effect. I personally use Om Namah Sivaya---Big Siva of course, plus I use the Gayatri, Asatoma, and the Guru Brahma of Shirdi Sai. I also use a simple Ma that Ammachi gave me. These are all for concentration and ritual for the mind..............ONS..Tony.
