The Hindu Puranas say that man will degenerate into three or four foot hominids by the end of the Kali Yuga. Mankind is essentially a genetically engineered failed experiment, it would be better if they became extinct in the long run and the surviving hominids or apes were allowed to evolve without genetic engineering to a being that could achieve Moksha.
