VG Namaste, My paternal grandmother was from a Jewish family in Dublin that came from Lithuania originally I believe, as did most Irish Jews. Herzog even made it to President of Israel. So if my father was my mother I would have been Jewish. I would still qualify for Hitler's gas chambers and I could get Israeli citizenship. Anyway the Jewish Religion or Pharisaism didn't arise until after the destruction of the temple in 70AD.,and didn't get any traction until 200AD. Prior to that there were several Hebraic or Canaanite groups that shared spiritual beliefs..Non were organised in a total religion....So what we call Judaism today arose at the same time and in a parallel with Essenism-Christianity. People often make the same mistake of confusing Jews and Israelites they are not always the same thing. In Israel/Palestine today roughly 40-50% of the population carry the haplogroup indicating some descent from people in that area the rest don't. Amongst the Palestinians roughly the same amount carry the haplogroup indicating they are Canaanite-Phoenician descent the other roughly 50% don't come from Palestine...So here we have a religion that has turned into a culture or gene pool and different ones at that. The original word Jew just meant a dweller of Judea not any religious affiliation, and wasn't much used until the Herodian Priests at the Temple were persecuting everybody. Afterwards the appelation was attached to descendants of the Pharisees and their codified teachings.........Cheers Tony. --- End forwarded message ---
