There's a whole economy structured from keeping old folks *alive* as long as they can. In the first assisted living place and lady I worked with was in active death stages, however, the nurses (I'm sure were told) did not give her any pain management though she was clearly in distress, once they did, after I had an argument with one, and a discussion with my employer (I work for the patient's best interest, after all) she was given whatever medication and she died soon afterward. What is precious is Ahimsa, and Daya not religious mores, doctrines and principals. In the end even those clinging to life will wish for the comfort of death. Attachment is the problem and always the problem, as life is an addiction and people don't want to give it up.They have thirst for life or Tanha!! Also fear comes in as most don't know what is going to happen to them after death.Nisargadatta Maharaj says , " Destiny is the result of causes, mostly accidental and therefore loosely woven. Namaste,Anne, It the nature of duality to be attached and grieve and all the other conditions. My wife and children and grandchildren are precious to this body only....One has to understand that is what is going on and that the real you has nothing to do with relations or relatives. Anna you may be too much involved with the remnants of organised religions and their ideas........as Niz says there is no such thing as a true idea..........Cheers Tony. --- End forwarded message ---
