, Tiruvananthapuram, Kerala   The best part of the temple is the the huge idol of Lord Vishnu sleeping over the snake is turning into gold(it weighs almost 700 kg)! It is believed that when Mahmud of Ghazni invaded India in the middle ages, the people of the then kingdom invented a black coating which would not wear out even by the strongest chemicals. They coated the large idol with this so that the plunderers wont come to know that its made up of gold. they were unable to remove the coating after the invaders left. Thank you so much for posting these

wonderful photos of Indian temples many of which I saw on my three trips to India nearly 20

years ago. Seeing them again makes me long to return to this uniquely wonderful

country, my true spiritual home. Hopefully, there will be at least one more

trip for me..

Sorry to everyone for the repost of the

photos and the large file. It was my intention to delete the photos and just

send the comment but I have not been well and somehow overlooked it. Not a very

auspicious start on my first posting to the group!
