I have to admit a weakness for mental play - in particular, word

games ;-). Silence is all well and good, and I get plenty of it in the

deep sleep state. It can be fun to rev up the thought engine from time

to time. Then again, stillness can indeed be lacking. Perhaps

I'll 'grow out of' this mental silliness.

Dear Tim,

I think what you are referring to is a benign vasana- mental play at games

of skill. For example I enjoy Chess as it sharpens intellectual

discrimination. The 'mental play' I was criticising was idle day dreaming

or uncontolled mind wandering. Perhaps I should revise the poem to avoid

the ambiguity.

Thanks for pointing this out.

All best wishes,

Alan
