These "Talks" offer a genuinely universal appeal by directly pointing to the truth of our intrinsic nature—to who we really are. By applying even a few of these passages to our life, an openness and freedom begins to dawn in our consciousness, and we become aware of the deeper, abiding Reality, of which we have always been a part. The great Indian sage Ramana Maharshi (1879-1950) had the unique gift of embodying the Infinite in an extraordinary manner. His words, which express the authentic experience of Enlightenment, have the power to guide one to the Source of enduring peace and happiness. Through the wise words of this beloved sage, we are clearly and consistently shown how to reclaim our innate Freedom — simply by looking in the right place and discovering what has always been present. A shift in attention is all that is required. By approaching these "Talks" in the spirit of inquiry, one has the opportunity to awaken to this greater Reality, that of our own Being, our true Self.

"'Talks' is the living voice of the greatest sage of the twentieth century. I am often asked, "If you were stranded on a desert island and had only one book, what would it be?" Talks with Ramana Maharshi is one of the two or three I always mention. And 'Talks' tops the list in this regard."—Ken Wilber

"What we find in the life and teachings of Sri Ramana is the purest of India; with its breath of world-liberated and liberating humanity, it is a chant of millenniums. He is the whitest spot in a white space."—Carl Jung

"The task performed by Bhagavan Sri Ramana was to reopen the direct path of Self-Inquiry."—Arthur Osborne

"The mind is a bundle of thoughts. The thoughts arise because there is the thinker. The thinker is the ego. The ego, if sought, will automatically vanish. The ego and the mind are the same. The ego is the root-thought from which all other thoughts arise."—Ramana Maharshi
