He is best known for the many collections of dialogs with seekers who came from all over the world to visit him at the foot of the holy Arunachala hill, but he also wrote several original works, including some powerful sacred poetry.Ivan============ Thought for the Day:Communing with nature is important. But don’t go out and do something in nature.Go out and let nature do something in you! ============ Here's your Daily Poem from the Poetry Chaikhana -- The Necklet of Nine Gems By Ramana Maharshi(1879 - 1950) Translated by Ramanasramam, reworked by Ivan Granger 1.In the court, Siva, though motionless, dancesbefore Shaktiin stillness. In Arunachala,in solemnity,He stands. She withdraws thereinto His still Self.2.'A,' 'Ru,' and 'Na'Sat, Chit, and Ananda -- the Supreme Self, the individual self --their union is Absolute; Thus, the great saying-- 'You are That.''Achala' bespeaksperfection.Worship Arunachala shining, golden;simply rememberingunlocks the door.3.Touchingthe lotus feetof the Lord of Arunachala, freed from attachment to wealth, family, place, ever purer, seeking Grace --darkness recedes. In the rising sun, golden, steady, full of grace, there abide, joyouslysunk in the Sea of Bliss.4.Annamalai!Don’t let me pine forgetful.Don’t crush me to dustleaving meconfusedbetween body and Self.Turn Your restoring glanceupon me,eye of my eyes!YouWho are all Consciousness,YouWho are neither male nor female, don’t fail me!Seat Yourselfin my heart.5.YouWho are all Consciousness, ruling over sublime Shonagiri, forgive the stumblingsof this little one.Rain Cloud, shower mewith Your gracious glance.Save me from being lost once morein the dreary waste.I cannot ford the grim streamof manifestation.Mother, what can match Your care?6.'Killer of Kama,Destroyer of Desire,'tied to Youwe know Your name.A question, though,if the title fits:How can mighty Kamacontinue, bold and conquering? How can he creep unseenupon one shelteredbeneath Your feet?Tell me,You Who killed him?7.Arunachala! As soon as You claimed me,I was Yours, body and soul. What is leftto want? You are successand You are failure both,Oh my life! They aremeaninglesswithout You. Beloved,do as You willwith me,but promise meever greater desirefor Your Feet!8.To rescue me -- born of virtuous Sundara and Sundari in holy Tiruchuli, seat of Bhuminatheshware --from the pain of the world, He raised meto his seat,His heart rejoices.Siva shines forth. And the Selfflowers. Such is Arunachala, knownacross the universe!9.Bearing me in the worldas my father and mother,You hid in my mind. Before I drownedin the deepillusion,You drew me,Arunachala, You Who are All Consciousness, such is the wonderof Your Grace! -- from The Collected Works of Ramana Maharshi, ed.
