Only a jnani can recognise a jnani

Day by Day with Bhagavan________6-10-45It was reported to Bhagavan that somehow under cover ofthe leaves, two mangoes had escaped the notice of the monkeysand had grown to quite a big size and that they were discoveredtoday, and that one was taken away by the monkeys and the otherleft behind. This made Bhagavan think of the expression (non-english script) (under cover of leaves) and by association of ideas hethought of a stanza in (n-e script) (Prabhulinga Lila), the9th in (n-e script) and read out to us a few stanzas,where it is related that once Marula Sankara was living like amadman near the place where leaf-plates, after eating, were thrownaway in front of a mutt. Neither the head of the mutt nor the disciplesknew anything about this man. But when Allama Prabhu wentthat way, Marula got up and prostrated himself at his feet andAllama Prabhu in turn took him up and embraced him. For, eachknew the other's worth. Only a jnani can recognise a jnani. Onewho indulges in kriya, charya, or yoga can be recognised by theseactivities which he goes through. But in the case of a jnani there isno such external thing by which we can recognise him.I note this incident, the more particularly because somewho come here also sometimes have found it difficult torecognise Bhagavan's worth and have even asked me, "What isthere about this Bhagavan of yours which makes you think heis a great man or a realised soul? He eats and sleeps and doeseverything else like us."
