Dear Learned Gurus,

I normally fast every week on Saturdays. I also fast on Ekdashi.

There are many people in my family and in my friends who also fast.

But, i have noticed a stark difference in how diferent people fast.

I normally fast from sunrise to sunset and do not even drink water.

I am not sure if this is the correct way to fast.

Please enlighten me.

Please also throw light on the difference in Vrat and Upvas.

Thank You very much

Warm Regards

Navin

Fasting from one sunrise to next sunrise is the correct way. But you should

drink water and can partake of uncooked food . Phala Aharam is what it is =

you can eat fruit and drink water. Next morning you have a bath and do your

Ishtta Daiva Pooja and then have an early lunch .
