SRI HANUMAN CHALISA -- PART 2

 

 

 

Choupaai -- Laye sanjivan.......... harshi ur laye [11[

 

You brought the life-saving Sanjeevani herb and saved Lakshmana. Overjoyed (at this marvellous feat), Sri Raghuveer hugged you in passionate embrace.

 

Raghupati kinhi...........Bharat sam bhai [12]

 

Sri Raghupati praised you exceedingly, and (overpowered with emotion) He said - "You are no less dear to me than is my brother Bharata".

 

Sahas badan..................Sripati kanth lagawe [13]

 

"Even the thousand hooded (serpent god) Sesh-Naga (who supports the earth on his head) extols your glorious feat", - saying thus, Lord Sripati hugged you.

(Lakshmana was manifestation of Sesh Naga)

 

Sankadik brahmadi..............sahit ahisa [14]

 

Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanat Kumar, (the four Rishi brothers are the mind born sons of Brahma, the Creator, delivered from his forehead. They are the most ancient Rishis and are the first manifestation of Lord Vishnu. They remain forever only 5 years of age, and so, are known as "Kumaras"**); Brahma and other dieties; the brightest jewels among the sages; Narada (the celestial sage, and Lord Vishnu's third manifestation); Sharada (Goddess of Learning - Saraswati); and Seshnaga;

 

** They are life long celebates and are "urdhvareta" -the process of preserving the vital fluid causing it to flow upwards instead of downwards; giving the person unimaginable powers of utilising the vital generative fluid towards the noblest end of God-realisation.

 

Jam kuber digpal.............sake kaha te [15]

 

Yamaraja (Lord of Death); Kubera (Lord of Wealth); The Dikpals (guards of all ten directions); poets and seers - none can extol your (endless) glories in full.

 

Tum upkar ................ raj pad dinha [16]

 

You rendered your (invaluable) service to Sugreeva (King Vali's brother) by bringing about his contact with Sri Rama and (consequently) getting him awarded the Kingship.

 

Tumharo mantra.................. sab jag jana [17]

 

Vibhishana (Ravana's exiled brother) acepted your (wise) counsel and (thus) became King of Lanka - this is known throughout the world.

 

Jug sahastra ...................... madhur phal janu [18]

 

(During your childhood days) you devoured the Sun, situated thousands of Yojanas (a measure of great distance) away, where it takes eons to reach, (merely) taking it to be a delicious fruit.

 

Prabhu mudrika......................achraj nahin [19]

 

Your put the Lord's signet-ring in your mouth, and no wonder, (most obediently, fearlessly and effortlessly) leaped over the sea.

 

Durgam kaj......................... tunhare tete [20]

 

(All) the formidable tasks in this world, whatever they be, become easier by your grace.

 

Ram duware..................... binu paisare [21]

 

You are the guard at the door of Sri Rama. No entrance is possible without your consent (i.e. except by your grace).

 

Sab sukh lahai.................... kahoo ko darna [22]

 

One can attain bliss by taking refuge in you. When you are the protector, one need have no fear.

 

Aapan tej samharo............... haak te kanpe [23]

 

(The irresistibility of) your force can be controlled by you alone. All the three worlds shudder when you thunder.

 

Bhoot pisach ......................... jab naam sunawe [24]

 

Ghosts and evil spirits do not approach once (Lord) Mahaveera's name is uttered.

 

Nasain rog ............................Hanumat beera [25]

 

(The devotee) gets cured of (all his) maladies, and relieved of all (his) sufferings by constantly chanting the hyms dedicated to the mighty Hanuman.
