Guest guest
Kavacham means a shield. When a Kavacham is sung, it is to the specificied Lord to request that he act as our shield and protect us against all external and Internal enemies. The Aditya Kavacham was used by Sage Yagnavalkya to convince Lord Surya to become his guru and teach him the Veda. The Aditya Kavacham should be read every Sunday by people in whose horoscope, the Sun is not in a good position or the present position of Sun causes problems. " Om Srimad Aditya kavacha stotra maha manthrasya Yagna valko maha rishi, Cha anushtup jagadhi chandamsi grunirithi bheejam soorya ithi shakthi, cha Aditya ithi keelakam, Sri Soorya narayana preethyarthe Jape viniyoga. " Meaning : For the Armour to the Sun God, Sage Yagnavalkya is the sage, meter is Anushtup jagaad, the root is " grun " , the strength is Sun god, the nail is Aditya and this is being recited to please Lord Surya Narayana(Sun God). " Udayachala magathya veda roopa mana mayam, Thushtava paraya bhakthya valakilyadhibhir vrutham. " Meaning : He comes out on to the mountain of dawn, He is healthy and the form of Vedas, He would be satisfied by devotion, And is meditated upon by sages, dressed in bark For complete Kavach with meaning visit : http://hindudevotionalpower.blogspot.com Thanks!!! Guest guest
I actually did order a Kavach/amulet a few years back, and upon it's much anticipated arrival through the postal service, I wore it on a chain as a necklace!! Kind of like a charm bracelet, but for the neck, and transfused with highly energized mantra....Within months, I noticed positive results- payed off all my loans, jobs, relationships etc..But it lost its charm and effect after a few years as I lost faith in it.. Guest guest
Please read " Hindu_jee's " message again! I do not believe S/he was talking about the same kind of Kavacha that you 'experienced'. I could be wrong, but I thought I will bring in that bit of 'detail'. Faith is very important in spiritual realm and practices. It is often abused, ill-understood in our worldly realm and that is a shame! Faith is a very fragile and yet very powerful faculty that we possess in our human experience! Look at it this way: Much of Jyotish too depends on FAITH when we see the planets as chunks of dirt and ice millions of miles away, with their feeble gravitational pull on our bodies and so on, but there is something SUBTLE too that we all intuitively know and that so called INTUITIVE sense of KNOWING is what FAITH is, crudely speaking, beti_jee! What we just KNOW, and without any real GOOD reason!! Guest guest
Speaking of Kavachams, talismans, yantras lot had been discussed in this forum not long ago. However, I am writing this again just to put certain misconceptions in proper perspective. Faith no doubt plays an important key role in these matters- that is what, that connects the mental power to the objective. That said, these come in two forms (a) in the form of Mantras/stotras etc (b) physical forms like yantras etc. While the first category is what one recites / practices every day and second category is what wears every day. Both have the same concept, but caters to different category of people. The physical form of Kavachams / yantras again has some conditions that should be born in mind. Life of these yantras / kavachams is considered to be only one year if it is written on copper and 3 years if written on silver and 12 years in gold, provided, they are well guarded. This means they have to be energised again after this period. If poluted they will have be cleansed and energised sooner. Such talismans / yantras in physical forms where created so that those who do not know tantras could also have their benefits. There again is a difference between practice of Kavachas in category (a) - reciting stotras / mantras / tantra. It is like sitting in a room where perfume has been sprayed and you expect that you shall also smell very sweetly by sitting there. True to some extent and practical. But it makes a lot of difference if you spray that perfume on you body and still greater difference if you eat good satwic food that won't make you smell nasty and clean your innerself so that you shall not only smell good but shine also. This is the main difference between true tantric practice and reciting stotras which is meant for those who cannot got through rigors and yet hope to smell good by sitting in that perfumed room.  A.G.Suresh Babu Shenoy ________________________________ rohinicrystal <jyotish_vani Sun, January 31, 2010 11:07:06 AM Re: Surya Kavacham Sloka  Please read " Hindu_jee's " message again! Guest guest
Just one correction for who ever had written the below and other who try to undertand it " the nail is Aditya " this was given as translation for the word " Keelakam " Though the literary meaning of the word " Keela " means nail / spike, here the word actually means " handle " . so the translation should have been " the handle is Aditya " And pls don't ask the meaning / purpose of that - it is serious practice of tantra and the explanation is not very simple. Guest guest
Well Shenoy jee -- we all know that Faith moves mountains, but the 'device' that Lilly just bought 'off-the-rack' did not work beyond a certain limited period! Reminds me of the hand-cranked projector that I purchased as a Teenager by MAIL-ORDER ;-) and which came with a little strip of a movie - but which did not work well after a while :-) Sure, I could whine all through my life about that bad merchandise and my gullibility, but it had a positive influence on me! It taught me a lot about how the MOVIE MAYA and persistance of vision and its role in the MAYA was involved and I learned all about the " sprocket mechanism " and the frame per minutes and how celluloid melts when placed without moving by the intense light (of SUN?) and many other details that kept my curious mind engaged as opposed to waste my wrath on the MAIL-ORDER SUPPLIER -- that when I began using REAL movie equipment -- that ancient memory and experience did not remain a bitter one but a fillip that made me face a challenge to learn from! I learned a lot from that due to my positive attitude and curiosity -- that ended up benefitting me in more ways than one! Lemons must remind us of LEMONADE and not sourness!! Respectfully submitted! Guest guest
Perhaps KEELAKAM or NAILING would be more understandable to the JYOTISH types if they think of ARGALA! Kinda sorta ;-) Rohiniranjan , " Suresh Babu.A.G " <sureshbabuag wrote: > > Just one correction for who ever had written the below and other who try to undertand it > > " the nail is Aditya " this was given as translation for the word " Keelakam " > > Though the literary meaning of the word " Keela " means nail / spike, here the word actually means " handle " . > > so the translation should have been " the handle is Aditya " > > And pls don't ask the meaning / purpose of that - it is serious practice of tantra and the explanation is not very simple. > > > A.G.Suresh Babu Shenoy > > > > > > > Meaning : For the Armour to the Sun God, Sage Yagnavalkya is the sage, meter is Anushtup jagaad, the root is " grun " , the strength is Sun god, the nail is Aditya and this is being recited to please Lord Surya Narayana(Sun God). >
Guest guest
Please leave me out of this! Argala was mentioned by me only because NAIL, Argala and HAND are all connected! The hand is the center-point! The hand that weilds the hammer is the same that CLOSES the BOLT! OR opens it, when morning arrives and so does Surya Devta. Hand, hammer, argala, bolts are all connected with EFFORT and all involve PARAKRAMA or the 3rd house which interestingly has been labelled by our beloved SAGES as: SAHAJ! On one hand (pardon my silly pun!) meaning who was born with us or brother but also more OBVIOUSLY as EASY/SIMPLE/FACILE! Sahaja and simple! Please pay attention to your 3rd HOUSES! ;-) Plural NUMBER is significant, grammatically. Rohiniranjan , HinduDevotional Power <hindudevotionalpower wrote: > > Suresh Babu.A.G, Rohiniranjan Ji,Thanks for your suggestion and review for Surya Kavacham. As per your suggestion we have made correction. Now you can read it as following : the nail (hadndle or argala) is Adityaorigional at : http://hindudevotionalpower.blogspot.com/2010/01/surya-kavacham.htmlHere I want to tell something about " ARGALA " : Argala is a very important concept in Vedic astrology. Literally speaking, argala means “a boltâ€. Argala on a house shows the influences that intervene in its affairs, decide some parts of it and close the bolt on it, so to speak. Planet having rasi drishti have a small influence. Planets having graha drishti have a more concrete influence. Planets with argala simply decide some parts of the matter signified by the house. The influence caused by argala is decisive..If there is any suggestion or question you can ask without any hassitate. ... <rest eliminated in keeping with the gentle and permissive request of this Jyotish Forum! It has suffered enough, ALREADY!!>
