dear friends

once upon a time there lived a great sage dadhichi, who was the son

of sage chyavana, a descendant of sage sukracharya. dadhichi has a

friend ksuva, who is a great king. once ksuva and dadhichi comes to

an argument that a king is equated as god and he shall command more

respect but dadhichi says that a Brahmin is revered even by gods and

kings and hence he needs more respect. then ensues a great fight

between the two in which process, sage sukracharya teaches the

mritasanjivini mantra and asks dadhichi to pray to lord shiva and

seek his boons. accordingly sage dadhichi prays to lord shiva and

gets three boons of not having death, adamantine bones and absence of

distress. even the thunderbolt used by ksuva could not harm dadhichi

due to his boons by lord shiva, after which ksuva prays to his

favourite lord Vishnu who then comes to fight with dadhichi and fails

as even his discus could not harm dadhichi. later ksuva accepts

defeat and praises sage dadhichi.

it is written in shivapurana, rudrasamhita, section 2, chapters 38

and 39 that whosoever reads this story can conquer premature death.

the place where this happened is sthaneswara and it is written that

whosoever visits this place will not have premature death and will

have salvation.

sthaneswara is today known as thanesar named after the local ancient

shiva temple in karnal district of haryana and shivabhakts living in

north india can easily visit this place and get benefited.

with best wishes and blessings
