For the past six years or so, Jupiter has been getting weaker and weaker as it has been going from maximum exaltation to maximum debilitation at 5 degrees of Capricorn on about January 1, 2009. Then, for about the next six years, Jupiter (the general planet of wisdom, the Law, politics, and money - among other things) will improve more -- month by month -- until it reaches its maximum degree of exaltation at 5 degrees of Cancer around July 11, 2014. So, from the point of view of Jupiter at least (the greatest of the natural benefics - " the good guys " ), things will soon be on their way up. But, I hear some of you saying, isn't the fact that Rahu (the planet of Maya, superficiality, and insatiable desires) is with Jupiter indicate that we are in for a very rocky ride indeed for the next year or so? Maybe. However, in Western Astrology, there is something called 'applying' and 'separating.' When two planets are moving toward an exact conjunction (or other strong angle like an opposition, square or trine), their effect on each other tends to get stronger and stronger as each day goes by. That is the case right now with Jupiter and Rahu. Jupiter, as of this writing, is at about 2 degrees of Capricorn. Rahu is at about 17 degrees of Capricorn (and remember that Rahu moves in a retrograde or backward motion). So they are applying toward each other. Not so good. However, they will be exactly conjunct around February 14, 2009. After that, they will separate from each other, i.e., move further and further apart. This means that Rahu's rough and unsettling effects on the blessed Jupiter will become less and less after mid-February. Several things, from the Jyotish point of view, have caused our present crisis. The most important of them has been the Kala Sarpa Yoga which began in August 2008 and is just starting to end in December 2008. Secondly, according to James Kelleher, the U.S.A. entered the Mars mahadasha on September 30, 2008. Whenever one leaves one mahadasha and enters another, there are a few months of " re-arranging the energies " until the patterns of the new dasha takes over. I believe that that is starting to occur now. What are the positive signs, astrologically, so far: New dasha - September 2008. End of Kala Sarpa Yoga - December 2008. Jupiter going past its lowest degree of debilitation - January 2009. Rahu and Jupiter starting to move away from each other - February 2009. Then, skipping forward a few months, we see that Saturn finally will leave the sign of Leo around September 8, 2009. Why is that so good? In Leo, the sign of kings and governments, Saturn (the planet of restriction and delay) has been creating difficulties for governments and big finance for several years now. Plus, in both Cancer and Leo (since September 2004), Saturn has been in an enemy's sign. An unhappy Saturn is a dangerous Saturn. When Saturn enters Virgo in September, it enters the sign of its good friend Mercury. This should be good for all of us. Furthermore, when Saturn enters Virgo, it will again be fully aspected by the divine Jupiter. That should help the working class and the health care system. Also, I feel that the foreign policy of the U.S. should start to be more benevolent. And the whole mortgage situation should seriously start to free up by that time also. I use the U.S. chart discovered by James Kelleher - July 4, 1776 at 6:30 pm - with Sagittarius Ascendant. I believe that we will see far more good news in 2009 than the bad news that we have experienced in 2008, in spite of Jupiter's so-called weakness in the sign of Capricorn. Time will tell. I am assuming that you, dear reader, know your own Jyotish chart. If so, then you will know that certain signs are anathema to you and you want to avoid those unfortunate individuals who have malefics in that sign and/or other terrible afflictions to that sign or its ruler. Afflicted sign and how the potential " disaster " person may act: Aries - turns red in the face and looks of anger, depression and fear alternate on the face of one with a severely afflicted Aries. Give this person sweets! Or, better yet, just avoid him altogether. Taurus - laughs too loud, keeps glancing lustfully at the buffet table. Stay away from the beastie when it is eating. Gemini - engages in 100-word long run-on sentences. Bad case of extreme motor mouth. Cannot sit still. This creature is a tremendous danger on the dance floor due to its unnatural twitching, shaking, and spasms. No, do not call 911. Cancer is especially dangerous in its afflicted female form. She will want to mother you to death - whether you are male or female - and will psychically grok onto you like a small jellyfish. Leo -There is a strong chance that you will fall asleep listening to this loser talk about himself/herself. The only cure for an afflicted Leo person is to utterly and entirely ignore them! They thrive on unneeded attention. Don't give it to them. Virgo's talk of gardening may make you feel like a weed. The antidote for their sappy talk is to tell them an extremely off-color and obnoxious joke. This will make them angry and they will march away, leaving you alone to enjoy the party. Libras want to share - to communicate - to be together. Arrange for your significant other to call you after three minutes in the company of this non-entity. Or, better yet, set the alarm on your cell phone to go off at the touch of a button. " Oh, gotta go, important call to make. Big client. Bye. " Scorpios give special meaning to the phrase passive/aggressive. Their eyes burn with the fires of their hidden evil plans. Shower them with love and extra-toothy grins and they will get bored and look for someone else to resent and argue with. Sagittarius' will want to move, move and move. Therefore, the cure is to feign exhaustion and just sit down and close your eyes. Pretend that you are either asleep or are in a deep meditation and they will bop away and try to " move " somebody else. Capricorn's doom and gloom and dull clothing and dull talk will depress any normal soul. Jump up and down, talk a mile a minute (but do not try to be logical). Act like you are on drugs and the Capricorn and his dark cloud will try to rain on somebody else's parade. Aquarius tries to impress you with how smart they are and what a deep thinker they are. Talk about your obsession with buttons or tomatoes or wines or tobacco and they will give up, thinking you too shallow to bother with. Pisces will talk about the vibrations and the essences and the psychic this and the ethereal that. Tell them about your investments or the mechanical innards of your vehicle or the latest stock car race you watched on TV. Do not discuss mantras, meditation, or anything New Age. Be earthy and practical and they will float away to the next victim. Hopefully this little guide will help you survive the holidays intact without any neurotic new " friends. " Numerology and the Winter Solstice ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By Renay Oshop (renay.oshop) Happy Holidays, everyone. In this article I point out an interesting general relationship between Jupiter in the chart of the Winter Solstice, its placement relative to the Sun, and the numerology of the year. Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year (due to the tilt of the Earth around the Sun) and is fundamentally a time of closure, as we shall see. Tradition holds that we may celebrate with anything from a fertility ritual (Romania) to the taming of monsters (ancient Mesopotamia). Deep reflection supported by a long dark night might offer the taming of inner monsters as well. To help, some guidance could come from a simple observation that the Sun at every Winter Solstice is always in Sagittarius, the place of cosmic teaching and wisdom. Moreover, the nakshatra (fixed star) of the Sun at Winter Solstice is Mula, the " root star " associated with " getting to the bottom of things " at the " end of materialization and the beginning of spirituality. " The placement of Jupiter synchronizes well with the numerological interpretations of the previous year. A type of cosmic retrospective varshaphala (fruits of the year) can be gained by the Winter Solstice chart that is consistent with and supportive of numerology. Chart M1: Winter Solstice Chart and Numerology - view chart at http://jyotish.ws/materials/chartm1.html The number is derived in the following way: 2008 = 2 + 0 + 8 = 10; 2013 = 2 + 0 + 13 = 15. Note the use of compound numbers (numbers greater than 9). This is a hallmark of the Chaldean numerological system as compared to the Pythagorean one common in the West. Also, the Chaldean seems like a good fit because of its traditional resonance with the Vedic Astrology used here. Noting the preeminence of the number 9 in the Chaldean method, we see that the 9 year is when the Sun AND Jupiter are in guru-like Sagittarius on the Winter Solstice. Did this concept also hold 1000 years ago and so on? Yes, because of the reliability of Sun and Jupiter in their transits. Regardless, enjoy the quiet, the absolute stillness, as provided always at this time of year by the holy planets themselves.
