Guest guest
||Jai Ramakrishna|| Dear Palaskar, Read BPHS, better if you get one translated by Seetaram Jha, as Santhanam's translation is poor.GC Sharma is also good. Then you can read Jataktatwa translated by Shree Suresh Mishra, New Techniques of Prediction, written by HR Sheshadri Iyer. For Prasna astrology,Prasna Shastra by Deepak Kapoor is good & Essentials of Medical Astrology. However, if you read too much, you will do nothing but confuse yourself, as each author has differnt take on differnt issues & finally you will find yourself nowhere. Always try to have positive attitude towards Astrology. As many say, books cannot make astrologers, thats why I am not good in this business; If God wants & wishes, then I can certainly succeed, so can you. Guest guest
Hart De Fouw and Robert Svoboda's Light on Life would be a good book if you are a beginner. And after you finish it, try reading some charts before you go to other books. If you read too many books before you begin to start studying charts seriously, you will end up in the state known as Kimkartavyavimoodh (kya kareyn kya kareyn!) Guest guest
Dear gaurav ji, There is no end to kind of books available for reading various books on jyotish.True Deepak Kapoor's books,ML Coudhary and Mridula Trivedi on various other issues are good for one;e understanding.. In addistion one reading through various journals too useful in understanding perspective of classical texts.Shri S.N.kapoor's time to time elaborations along with Prof Muttusway of IITM are really worth. when only limited knowledge was available in 1980 t0 90s probably the effort made by Mr Satnam was laudable. Now the nire nayee Sadak has umpteen authors writing books on astrology. For better understanding reading jyotish in vernacular version of language helps. vrkrishnan --- On Sun, 1/18/09, <gaurav.ghosh wrote: <gaurav.ghosh Re: Thanks to everyone Sunday, January 18, 2009, 1:54 PM ||Jai Ramakrishna| | Dear Palaskar, Read BPHS, better if you get one translated by Seetaram Jha, as Santhanam's translation is poor.GC Sharma is also good. Guest guest
||Jai Ramakrishna|| Dear Shree Krishnanji, Yes, a good book in vernacular version, which explains it quite simply, is very helpful. In fact, I started astrology by reading a bengali book only, before I was about to appear for class=12 final exams, 5 years ago. When I was able to accumulate some pocket money, then I started buying classics, Late BV Raman's books, & when started earning bought books by Shree KN Rao & various other works. After reading books & applying them to charts, actually I found myself, not to mention Shree KN Rao's books, which was sometimes controversial(may i be forgiven for this comment, which is a personal). During that time HRS Iyer's books came to my rescue & my old bengali astro-book & a treatise in bengali, which a bengali author wrote more than 100 years ago. Anyways, since reading too much made me confused, thats why I advised him.BY the way, you are much senior to me & I would appreciate if you kindly drop " ji " after my name. Guest guest
My first astrology book after my few years of acquaintaince with palmistry was VAK Ayer;s " Everyday Astrology " , a book if I recall clearly that contained a primer of sorts on jyotish as well as western astrology! I was so confused after reading it that I simply gave up on astrology and went back to studying other things! Almost an year later I ran into a book on western astrology which was written so lucidly that it really made sense and rekindled my interest in astrology and jyotish. Certain things in life are indeed mysterious and makes one wonder about, " jab jab jo jo hona hai, tab tab woh to hoyega! " To other fellow students this is my advice: Keep reading (books and charts!) because as soon as you stop either activity, you get distracted from the goal and your mission! Guest guest
Dear Gaurav ji, Never tell a young student of astrology that if he reads too much he will cunfuse himself. It is very important to read good, bad and mediocre books. afterall how will he the student realise which version of BPHS is good till he has gone thru some.If Astrology has to survive in a healthy fashion we all have to develop minds that search and question. We do not need astrologers who believe they can predict after having read BPHs and Phaldeepika. Infact I would advise all students to read as many books and read them repeatedly. As yu mature you always find new meanings in the text. It is indeed remarkable that each time i have read the same book after a passage of time I have discovered something new. Just goes to prove astrology is dynamic not static. Guest guest
||Jai Ramakrishna|| Dear Mr.Sahai, Certainly, why not read good, bad or mediocre books, if you aspire to be a critic, like Mr.KN Rao for example, who is more of critic than a predictor(if you have read his books, it will be clear to you). Doesn't an experienced person advise what is good, better & best or people who has gone through similar path, don't they tell which path has steepy edges???or " Kshurasya dhara nishita duratyaya durgama pathastat kabayo vadanti " ---the path is as sharp as knife, full of obstacles, dangerous to tread through as learned sages say...
