Guest guest
Dear Learned group members, Please help me decide what to do. Problem :: I and my wife had not not planned to have another baby as we already had a boy (Aug 25 2006) and a girl (March 20 2004). We had taken precautions but still got pregnant and had to ultimately decide about abortion. My wife was very upset and I checked with an astrologer. He recommended us to do a puja for atonement (as this sin would and is causing ill affects on my whole family), which would cost us more than 21,000 Rs. I wanted to check with this learned group if there is an equally effective remedy for my situation. Thank you in advance for help. Guest guest
Dear friend, In classics like Manu Smriti , Parasara Smriti and other sources the atonement for doing voluntary abortion are as following; (1) performance of Krichha Chandrayana Vrata (which is a bit tough for today's world for householders.....one takes one handful of rice as whole day's food on 1st lunar day and 2 handfuls on 2nd tithi and 15 handfuls on full moon day....complete fast on newmoon day... there is no bar in drinking pure water... but drinking tea , cofee or milk, curd ..sharbat etc prohibited)for one year. Beside the condition on food, there is condition that one should try his/ her best not tell a single lie or commit any untruthful action. Unless one is very well versed in Surya-bheda Pranayam...( art of reducing the metabolic rate of burnig/ spending our body energies through Pranayama)it becomes very tough to continue this Vrata without neglecting the general household duties. Everyday the person takes the food (handful size= equalling the average size of a hen's egg)after seeing the moon. Since this vrata follows movement of moon... this is called Chandrayana = Chandra + Ayana (movement). The person should take the name of lord Krishna in any form he/she likes throught the day ... meditating upon Krishna. It have seen childless people getting children after performance of this Vrat even after doctors declaring them as impotent or barren. Such is the wonderful grace of the Lord ! (2) Regular observance of Upabasa ( meaning staing close to lord by doing meditation and taking lord's name) eating light food and drinks, maintaining truthfulness in bebaviour on all 24 Ekadasi days of the year for 11 years. (3) Doing regular pranayam for 48 minutes in morning and evening for 1 years at least. (4) Doing regular recitation/meditation on Gayatri mantra for 48 minutes a day for 3 years. The list is very long... The essence of the matter is repentance and comitment for futue performance of good deeds and a strong emotional/ intellectual linkage with the God. Guest guest
Thank you very much Tripathy ji, One small followup question. Is there a puja or Havan that we could do for atonement?
