Purity of gemstones is tested through the following methods in scientific laboratories:- (i) by x-ray to check against cracks, bubbles, scratches etc. (ii) by spectroscopy to see its purity in terms of electromagnetic radiation range ( wavelengths of rays emitted and their refractive index ) (iii) by radiography ( to check against harmful radiations if any) (iv) determination of density and (specific property for identification) (v)spefic heat (specific property for identification, this test may not be always possible) (vi) elasticity ( specific property, this test may not always be possible to do) The scientific test is limited to check purity and genuineness only. Myself with my limited exposure to astrology- try to find out favourableness of a gemstone on the basis of basic significations of the gemstone- on the basis of the planetary energies- for which the gemstone stands for.
