Guest guest
Uttara Kalamrita is so different from most other Jyotish 'scriptures'! It is anything but placid, even a bit roguish and challenging -- perhaps written in and for kaliyuga! And Shri P.S. Sastri adds an inimitable spunk, clarity and a healthy dose of opinionatedness and authority to his translation of the work! The fourth Chapter and the 34th shloka has always made me halt! Why was Kalidasa emphasizing only 8 padas/8 houses? What is to become of the remaining four: 3, 6, 8, 11? Are they to not experience padas (and movement or room to move? No feet -- no image, no maya, no shift ...? WYSIWYG houses (what you see is what you get -- for the younger folks that may not be familiar with that computer acronym from the 70s and 80s). Did Kalidas have an embedded message there in leaving out the 2 trikas and 3 upachayas from the consideration? Or was he just glossing over those and being less than meticulous? Or is there another original version of Uttara Kalamrita hiding somewhere? Enquiring Astrologers want to know ;-) Rohiniranjan
