For example some one told my Shiva, other told me Vishnuji or one paundit ji told us specifically Ram or Karishna, some one told us Durga Maa or Kaali Maa or Tara Maa.....and list goes on. Please help me to get to one so that I can do my Sadhna in right direction. My birth details are: DOB - 01/27/1975 TOB - 02:00 AM (26th night & 27th morning) POB - Hardoi (U.P.) India Please help me. It is just like we take medicines. Specific medicines are given for specific illness while vitamines are adviced for general weakness and then again tonics & good food, way of life, yoga etc for general well being. Similar is the case of Devathas. That is a broad outline. If we go further down the line, The devathas related to a person are 1) Kula devatha (Gotra devatha) 2) Kula devatha as kept at home & propitiated even from anacestoral times (4th & 2nd house) 3) Grama Devatha - the main diety of the village or township (4th house) - one was born, reside(s)(ed), ancestors used to- 4) Mantra devatha - that one does mantropasana (5th house) 5) upsana devatha - That one propitiates with daily poojas (9th house) This could also indicate the diety that ones father or ancestors used to propitiate. 6) Ishata devatha - Personal diety. Could be any of the above or none. Generaly common persons may not have mantra devatha. But they could have any of the rest. Depending on the chart, the most beneficial / powerfull planet is also considered as Ishata Devatha for general well being etc. Some of these concept involves, one sect, customes, regional customes etc. and it also depends on how deep you want go in the spiritual path. Understand that after a point, you will have to choose between spiritual & materialistic path. That is the truth and you cannot have both beyond that point. But for a normal family person it would not be practicaly possible to choose like that. How you can verify it. Go any saturday with 24 white blue mixed flowers, 3 bananas, 3 ghee deeps,24 dhoops ,24 bilwa patis,pure milk in a metal pot, go with purified cloths and offer through poojari and recite there 24 times recite following mantras: 1) 24 Times Gayatree 2)24 Times Sadhakshyara   3) 24 Times Gayatree exactly at the time while poojariji, is busy in offering the above things serially and then you can visit any temple. Mark the maximum peace you are getting in Shiva temple as compered to any other temple visited in that day. This saturday should be well matching to your rashi and nakkhyatra and and very near to full moon day. Pl.do it and write back to me the response. For example some one told my Shiva, other told me Vishnuji or one paundit ji told us specifically Ram or Karishna, some one told us Durga Maa or Kaali Maa or Tara Maa.....and list goes on. Please help me to get to one so that I can do my Sadhna in right direction. My birth details are: DOB - 01/27/1975 TOB - 02:00 AM (26th night & 27th morning) POB - Hardoi (U.P.) India Please help me. Sanjay Rath and his students have written lots of articles etc on the topic of Ishta Devta.
