Dear Kulbir Bhai

There are quite a few methods prevalent to ascertain the Ishta

Devta. In the Jamini system it is the Arudhs which are studied to

find one; a rather complicated method.

In the Parashar system , apart from the one suggested by Pt. Ashant

ji in Amrita Pritam’s book, there is another widely accepted system

of finding the Ishta Devta through the Navanshesh of the moon.

Since the traditional Vedic Jyotish does not consider the 2nd house

as a ‘dharma-sthan’, therefore the 2nd house has not been included

in the process of finding the Ishta Devta.

We as Lal Kitab followers can include the 2nd house also along with

the 5th and the 9th. It will give a wider choice to the native to

choose from.

Therefore, the choice of the Ishta devta could be based on the

planets placed in these houses. In case all these houses are

unoccupied, then the choice should be based on the Navansh lord of

the Moon.

Whatever be the method the final touchstone is the affinity to the

deity ; whether there is a natural urge to pray to that deity or

not. The entire exercise of finding an Ishta devta is to give you a

few options to choose from. More options the better it would be.

With regards,
