Guest guest
 Dear Friends, Adhyaya 25 sloka 1 of Phaladeepika on "   Upagrahas " will be helpful to understand the concept.and uttara Kaalamrita.sloka 8(locating Mandi and Gulika) Better to try with JHora on ones chart and find gulika and Mandi. In my case..Both are in simha, that is my 9th sign from Dhanur Lagna. Like 9 grahas (or 7+2),there are 9 upagrhas, commencing from Mandi.Like wise Gulika too is the division of time based on the length of day. Both are considered as sons of saturn. The calculation are matematical and based on factors like day birth/night birth. Then week days from sunday onwards. The first two hrs are for that dat lord.Like monday 6A.M to 8A.M is for moon.of that total duaration the upagrahas also share in that time. Gulika throws light on diseases/illness.Maandi is for lonegevity. The portion of the day belonging to saturn is GULIKA.for day birth. Instead of the calculation of some body chart I have given position of Maandi on friday, that is my birth day duely giving sun rise and sun setting days. 2.As the duration of day varies and goes beyond 12hrs based on place and sun rise and sun set timings. 3.For day time birth the simaple calculaltion is satrting with sunday. The Manndi will be at the end of 604 minits of the the total 720 mints duaration(24x60) and gradually decreases by 96 mintst 4.The position of Manda Varies based on the day(12hrs or 30ghatis) commencing with Sunday and ending with Saturday based on my day of birth ,Maandi falls on friday in simha(9thH) and it varies based on the length of day from sun rise to sun set. In Sravan,if yhe sun rise is at 5,46 and sun set is 6.32 P.M.The difference is the duration of the day.It is around 12h56mts about 32 ghatikas.Being friday, the Maandi will be in simha about 4,30 p.m. For night birth, the maandi calculation starts from 5 H(not from week day as mentiond for day birth) After sunset time, the birth is considered night birth,For the sunday the maandi will be the end od 10 ghatikas, monday 6 ghatikas, tues 2 ghatikas  till the end of 14 ghatikas on saturdays. It would be nice if you could take up on lilly's query and also changing the subject of the thread. I believe that way diversity can be maintained with focus on astro as you have said. But the need to bring back Jyotish center stage is our collective respomsiblity, goal always and am happy to see VRY, Gulika etc and other elements taking over the threat sun's placement. let the thread sutibly be re-phrased in replies by members as always when I can add something i will surely do.as said i t is a collective job. less of the moderator as a person, more as a fellow astrologer is what I love to be seen doing. this is possible only witht he co-operation of one and all. thanks - G B Prashant Kumar Life Member ICAS. http://groups. / group/Jyotish_ Remedies/ database? method=reportRow s & tbl=6 ____________ _________ _________ __ rohinicrystal <jyotish_vani@ hotmail.com> Sat, January 16, 2010 8:58:15 AM Re: another 100+ day ?... 16/01 Prashant_jee, I was not trying to force you to write etc. It is good to hear that there are so many of us volunteers who pitch in, and can help this forum. Please take your time and never feel pressed to write or lead any threads or discussion. This is a very democratic and compared to many others, a very civil and mostly affectionate forum. Yes we have banters and some trouble-makers who hardly ever contribute anything meaningless other than their personal angst cropping up and so on, but even the deadliest malaria-bearing mosquitos can be thwarted through well-known preventive measures!
