Our (earth and moon...) motions (cosmic dance = Nritya) are so synchronized that when we look up at the moon, we never see the other side, the dark-side of the moon! In other words, most 'casual observers' never get to see the hidden side of moon! Including the astronomers that we sent up there! Moon may have 1/6th the mass but it is still pretty huge even for NASA to conquer completely and understand! Of course -- jyotishis being blessed some/most of the jyotishis claim that they have understood and deciphered the moon completely, already alongwith many other things that constitute " human experience! " :-) Moon, therefore, has three dimensions: a) Pakshabala which perhaps represents its qualitative nature b) Standard shadbala which represents its quantitative expression c) Its mysterious and HIDDEN potential, represented enigmatically by the mundane, physical, astronomical reality that we never get to " WITNESS " directly from earth the 'dark-side' of the satellite MOON! Perhaps Ravan Samhita or similar text might hold a clue! If you find it, please share, but please do not get upset if most of us ordinary folks never get beyond point (b)! Some of these Samhitas also prescribes some code of conduct mainly to have concentration and control thought processes More of Astronomy and less of vedic influence.but Ravan being a brahma jnani for him three lokas sight gives him enrgy. For us humans, the present forms of knowledge and guidance if understood well that safeguards from many evils and un certainities. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2010 Report Share Posted March 6, 2010 dear friends having spent several years in the search, pursuit and learning of these samhitas in the himalayan states long ago, let me give my observation on these samhitas. firstly, there are a couple of samhitas like bhrigu samhita, ravan samhita and also few other sage name prefixed samhitas which are purportedly attributed to be having only one copy which is the descended property of only one family in a village. these are just like various nadis named after dozens of sages in the south which are said to be containing the past, present, future and even the horoscopes of many individuals. let us not debate this as it opens another pandora box. specific to ravan samhita, there are at least three different types of ravan samhitas that i have all of them including a very huge one with thousands of shlokas all written in sanskrit. the entire astrology lessons part in these samhitas is as good as (if not a direct take) bhrigu samhita an exclusive ancient astro book in the north. however, what this ravan samhita got exclusively which we do not find (at least in my knowledge) in other scriptures is various stotras and mantras written by ravan brahma, various tantras and prayogas including medicinal ones for cure of diseases. there is a special way of worshipping ravana whereafter one gets the siddhi of ravana maya which can be cast as a spell to create things which appear as a miracle, though last only for a short period. having learnt all these, i advise knowledge aspirants not to go after these tantras and prayogas and maya siddhis because they are tamasic and rajasic in nature and invite unholy company of the evil unknowingly which many a tantrik realise only on hindsight. as for astrology part, one can ignore ravan samhita and bphs is the most authentic, exhaustive and illustrated ancient scripture on astrology and we can easily label it as the bible of astrology. the great grandson of lord brahma, ravan has transformed himself from a god to a sage to a king to an evil and yes, he is the first and only person who had conquered all the nine planets and dictated them to take the positions as he liked at the time of the birth of his son but the satvik gods have other plans and made the slow moving saturn to outsmart ravan and rest is known to all. hence, for learning and knowing about astrology, one can safely ignore ravan samhita. with best wishes and blessings pandit arjun www.rudraksharemedy.com , " rohinicrystal " <jyotish_vani wrote: > > It is an astronomical or astrophysical curiosity, from what I have heard, that we earth-vasis always see ONE side of the moon! And it has become natural and hence Nature! By secluded islands, did you mean England ;-)? It even has its own currency while the rest of Europe has accepted the mudra known as EURO! Amongst Europeans, the brits are characterised as having the " island mentality! " . Great Britain has had a very strong and important karmic role in the past but it should wake up to MODERN REALITY, as SHOULD other CLASSICS! Just a thought...
