Guest guest Posted March 25, 2010 Report Share Posted March 25, 2010 Chandrashekhar jee, It really bothers me that some jyotishis (for many decades) have spend too much time and breath on trying to justify that Jyotish is a science as if that is some Badge of Honour that Jyotish must receive before the boy-jyotish turns into a man-jyotish (rites of passage!) or something like that! Fact of the matter is that pure science and even some recent sciences have only been able to scale and study the physical reality, the world of matter and particles and some waves. Psychology perhaps has taken a longer leap but as I see it, it is still in mid-air and has not landed fully! And, many pure scientists still do not consider it as full science. The part of psychology (neuropsychology) that is based on organic/chemical objective biological evidence has probably a bit more credibility in Science circles than the earlier subjective, analytic psychoanalytic type psychology! Astrology is on a different plane altogether and sure it uses techniques, uses rules and strategies, but so does art! There are rules in art, there are materials (paints, brushes) needed but those do not turn Art into a Science! Shastra to me indicates something procedural, something where there is a protocol and structure but there is a lot of interpretation (involvement of the human mind, soul, thinking!) involved.
