Being a language, there are just certain things in its Grammar (Rules) that just are so! One can keep chasing one's tail endlessly like a dog whose tail has been dipped in some volatile liquid like petrol! It will keep chasing its tail to figure out why it is so cold and thus noticeable! <<CAVEAT: PLEASE KEEP SPARKS AND MATCHES <no PUN intended!> FAR AWAY!!>> {I am sorry Moderator! I could not resist the temptation! :-( This is my personal whim, belief, though not quite DOGMA, but I think that astrology was CREATED in the IMAGE of HUMAN EXPERIENCE! It is a 'projection' of the HUMAN EXPERIENCE on to the COSMOS! Some may call this arrogant, while others would see in it some kind of mystical connection between the microcosmos and macrocosmos or even simply an act and pursuit of 'REACHING OUT TO THE STARS BY THE HUMAN BEING!' So, it is alway best to view in astrological reality, the images and glimpses of the HUMAN BEING and HUMAN EXPERIENCES! As BELOW SO ABOVE, in other words! With that preamble out of the way: Drishti or glance, vision as most humans would agree, we often look forward, straight ahead and directly and thus the 7th house aspect/drishti is nothing to agonize over or about! Now why the special wider field of vision (special drishtis/full aspects) attributed in Jyotish ONLY to the superior planets but not the inferior ones (Venus, mercury, and even the LIGHTS: Sun and moon?)? Jupiter is the most benevolent, by nature and hence is expected to cast its benevolent and equitable, even and fair glance symmetrically to the two noble houses, the trines, equally and symmetrically: The fifth and ninth. Jupiter, therefore has the even, balanced gaze. Yet it has a leaning towards being with 'Sama-dharmis'. Hence from its moolatrikona, symbolically its SANCTUM SANCTORUM, it will look at the other two signs of the same element: Fire! The Fire is a very pure and purifying symbol, hence its use in Homa and other spiritual rituals in the passage of soul (Funeral!). Mars is a malefic and not as 'fair' and being a warrior can not be complacent and live in some spiritual LA-LA land! For it has seen the stupidity in doing so, perhaps for a few lifetimes or so, symbolically of course! From its Mooltrikona/Fortress, it must keep its eyes on its home and those that it must protect (4) and also the enemies that are hiding (8). In doing so, it is essentially making sure that its most vulnerable spot (CANCER where it debilitates -- the quintessential HOME/Kalapurusha chart!) and its other 'home' which being a strategical soldier it places right in the HIDDEN ENEMY's domain (8th) wherein lies much of its attention and time spent! This is not silly, because a soldier has a second home where it often lives and spends most of his life: The battlefield where it meets its hidden enemies who are always waiting to surprise the soldier with yet another ambush! Hence, mars was given the other home as scorpio where it feels comfortable too for what kind of a soldier it would be who does not feel at ease and at home in the battlefield? Hence Mars was given the crooked glance, one on its home (4) and the other on (8) where his other home and his hidden enemies are! Incidentally, in doing all this we also understand why many martians have a squint! There is a name for mars (Vakra!). I suppose it was about its vakra drishti, one on 4 and one on 8 and not symmetrical like Guru! I hope I am making sense to you all, so far ;-) Then comes the most mysterious planet, easily misunderstood that we have all witnessed and experienced! And, perhaps written about! Shani Maharaj! From his mooltrikon in Kumbha he glances at aries and scorpio (3rd and 10th). Shani is manda - slow - of low energy and hence its neecha rashi falls in the house of parakrama/efforts -- the 3rd! The weak heel in this giant of a planet! Always unsure of its actions and capabilities at its worst (that is what neecha is all about!) and also about those that are its best friends and thus Saturn stays alone! Incommunicado since the 3rd house is also about intellect and communication! And the 10th which is the ultimate and full expression of the nativity! Most people just stay with the 10th aspect of job, occupation etc BUT the flag of the 10th house is KARMA! Karma is what we are born as human beings, so please do NOT short-change the 10th house with just what you do from 9-5 or 7-22h but your TOTAL expression of the soul that you are! THE WHOLE YOU! Which is the only thing that will either make you FREE or keep you wanting to come back, again and again! ;-) It is this FULL EXPRESSION that Saturn in your chart is supposed to 'KEEP AN EYE ON!' LITTLE wonder that it is called a KARMIC planet by some of us Jyotishis! Are you all still with me? Then I must be making sense! The way I have looked at it, dear friends: The first drishti of these superior planets are personal: 4, 5, 3 for Mars, Jupiter, Saturn respectively! Those are the houses from the placement of these planets that must be where the planet must seek to receive energy from and to make sure that those three houses are well cared for and fully attended to! From those will arise their strength so that they can fulfull their promise/purpose for this lifetime/expression which is what 8, 9, 10 respectively represent for Mars, Jupiter and Saturn! And, just because I have not discussed about the 7th drishti, please do not misunderstand that I am suggesting that you take that house for granted ;-) But, that one is the universal truth for ALL PLANETS! Rahu does not have a drishti and therefore, Vidhata gave it a TANGIBLE COMPANION THERE! The SHASWAT KETU which follows whereever RAHU the eyes goes! And, why the Mool-Trikona? Because that is from where Parashara told us to look for Friends and Enemies ;-) ENJOY! Rohiniranjan
