Dear friends,

Namaskar!

There was a post from a gentleman that I must be censored since I

had been advocating a Sayana Rashichakra through my ephmeris etc.

earlier for over a decade and all of a sudden, I have changed my

views.

When that gentleman was a member of HinduCalendar forum, he had

rasied a similar " objection " . His mentor, on whose behalf he is

pleading vociferously, also had raised a hue and cry on the same

grounds when she was a member of that forum.

I had drawn the attention of both those scholars to a post on

HinduCalendar forum. But like the Bourborn both of them appear to

have learnt nothing and forgoteen nothing (or is it that they have

forgotten everything!). It also appears to me that they have got

stuck with a Greek Rashichakra which I was myself harbouring for

sometime, whereas I have evolved further! In any case, the members

are better judges and I shall await their views on the following

post (No. 624 of April 5, 2006 of HinduCalendar forum)

With regards,

Dear Shri Deepak Gore ji,

Namaste!

How can I forget you! You had been kind enough to send me the

missing pages of " Bharatiya Jyotish " in Marathi by Pt. S. B. Dikshit

(I hope I have spelt the name correctly this time!) besides a lot of

information about the fact that we were being taken for a ride

by " Vedic Jyotishis " by such statements as " The Vedas have referred

to a nirayana Rashichakra " . I am sure that these days you must be

celebrating all your festivals, fairs and muhurtas on the basis of

the real spirit of the Vedas!

It is so thoughtful of you to suggest that we should make the

articles of my " Shri Krishen Universal Ephemeris & Panchang " from

1996 to 2001 available to the general public in PDF format.

However, I am reluctant to do so, not because you will not do

justice to those articles but because of the following reasons:

1. There is a saying that no man ever bathes in the same

river! It is actually because the waters keep on flowing and the

particular ebb or tide that we used earlier to have a bath in has

already passed by. It is only a pond in which we can bathe in the

same water, but then that water is stagnant and may even become

putrid by the time we want to have a bath in it the next time!

Similarly, there was a time when I was myself hypnotized by

" Vedic Jyotish " -- the only difference being that I had thought that

the Vedas had delineated our horoscopes as per a sayana

Rashichakra! This is what I had tried to plead for in my

ephemerides up to almost 2000. However, thanks to " Bharatiya

Jyotihsa " and other works besides the Report of the " Saha Calendar

Reform Committee " I was wonder struck to find that they had

said that there were no rashis in the Vedas! I did not believe them

and literally scourged all the four Vedas, Brahmanas, Upanishads

etc. etc. myself, and it was a fact that our Vedic Rishis had not,

even by mistake, alluded to any Rashis like Mesha etc. or planets

like Mangal, Shani etc. As such, the dichotomy of nirayana and

Sayana was just a bogey raised by selfish Hindu astrologers who call

themselves " Vedic Jyotishis " these days.

2. On probing still deeper, thanks again to " Bharatiya Jyotisha

(summary of the Vedanga period) " etc., I found that the Vedanga

Jyotisha of Lagadha was just the only astronomical work of the

ancient Vedic period (about 13/14th century BC) and even that work

contains nothing but methodology of calculating the tithi, nakshatra

and the Tapah-cum-Magha etc. months starting from the Uttarayana!

If you peruse it thoroughly, you will be convinced that Maharshi

Lagadha was not even aware of any planetary calculations and leave

alone Mesha etc. Rashis. Then he also has made the nakshatras start

from Krittikas as in most of the Vedas. And just see the

temerity(actually ignorance!) of " Vedic jyotishis " -- they say that

since there is a book named " Vedanga Jyotisha " they are entitled to

call their predictive hocus pocus as " Vedanga Jyotisha " !

3. The same is the story with Yajur-Jyotisham and Atharva

Jyotisha, both of which have been discussed exhaustively by Pt. S.

B. Dikshit in his monumental work " Bharatiya Jyotish " .

4. What made me literally mad was the fact that none of the

original Hindu sidhantas viz. the Pitamaha Sidhanta or Vasishtha

Sidhanta (of Pancha Sidhantika) has anything to do with planetary

calculations or Mesha etc. Rashis! They have just followed the

footsteps of the Vedanga Jyotisha!

5. It all boiled down to the fact that Surya Sidhanta was the

only work with which had started planetary calculations and the

farce of Mesha etc. Rashis in India. And when Maya himself says

that he is a Yavana - a mlechha -- who are we to deny him that

privilege and thrust our NRI status on him forcibly! In fact that

is the blunder we have committed all along --- considered the Surya

Sidhanta as the " Arsha-kula Sidhanta " and lapped up the funniest

things adumbrated by Maya the mlechha! He has actually made a fool

of us by saying that he had obtained that knowledge from Surya

Bhagwan by dint of his Tapasya in the early part of Satya Yuga! Can

you otherwise imagine that we would have been taken for a ride by

anybody, unless he had instilled the fear in us that it was a divine

work revealed by the Surya Bhagwan, that we would have believed that

the mean longitudes of all the planets were zero just a few thousand

years back! All our " favorite " astronomers like Aryabhata, Brahma

Gupta, Lalla, Munjala, Latadeva and even Bhasakaracharya of Sidhanta

Shirmonai had suffered from the same fear psychosis with the result

that they did not question the parameters fixed by Maya the mlechha,

lest they annoy the Surya Bhagwan! What is all the more disgusting

is that Ganesha Daivagya, through his Graha Laghavam, did his

best (actually it was the worst!) to concoct a planetary phenomenon

that would emulate the Surya Sidhanta of Yavana the mlechha! We

have all along been making " beeja corrections " and the latest fad

is " Lahiri Beeja correction " in the Surya Sidhanta without even

realizing for a moment as to how obnoxious the meaning of such a

statement is! We should have thrown Surya Sidhanta into a dustbin

ages back and gone by the Vedanga Jyotisha, but then

our " Jyotishis " - who called themselves " Hindu Jyotishis "

initially and later, on the promptings of " Vamadevas " from overseas

countries, stated calling themselves " Vedic Jyotishis " ---prevented

us from doing so! These " jyotishis " are actually a slur on the

Vedas and stooges of Maya the mlechha and now imported " Vamadevas "

bent on doing the maximum damage to the real fabric of Indian

culture by proclaiming, without any proof, that the farce they are

teaching as " Vedic Jyotisha " is expounded by Vedic Rishis!

6. Thus it is phalita jyotisha, whether the so called nirayana

or the so called sayana, that has to be delinked from our ethos and

completely eradicated/uprooted from our dictionary. It has done the

maximum damage to us already and if we do not put a full stop to it,

it will continue to hurtle us towards abyss, as happened to the

Bharatiya Janata Party. THE TRAGIC FACT IS THAT OUR DHARMACHARYAS,

INCLUDING SHANKARACHARYAS, HAVE BECOME DEPENDENT ON JYTISHIS TO KNOW

THEIR FUTURE WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TRIKALADARSHIS---KNOWING

THEIR PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE LIKE THE PALMS OF THEIR HANDS! AND

WHEN THESE DHARMACHARYAS APPOINT SOME PEOPLE AS " JYOTISH

CONSULTANTS " YOU CAN WELL IMAGINE AS TO WHAT TYPE OF DHARMACHARYAS

THEY ARE AND AS TO WHAT TYPE OF REFORMISTS THOSE " JYOTISH

CONSULTANTS " ARE.

From the above, I hope you will forgive me when I say that what I had

written in my earlier ephemeredes was not the last word and there

have been further improvements in my own thinking since then. I am

a student and will remain so and continue to learn every moment of

my life! Maybe, after some time I will do " editing " of my own works

and request you to present them in PDF etc. formats, but then may be

it will be much easier then to re-write the entire thing rather than

give cosmetic touches to those articles. I am keeping my fingers

crossed!

With kind regards,

Avtar Krishen Kaul

Re: [HinduCalendar] We are celebrating all our festivals and

Dear Shri. Kaul saheb

Remember me ?

I will come straight to the point. You have published in your Sri

Krishna

Ephemeres, over the last ten years or so, several learned articles

about

Sayana Jyotish. They were remarkable because you have extensively

quoted

from Hindu scriptures, to show that there is no such thing like

nirayana

panchang. Most of our Nirayana astrologers do not even know

Sanskrit, and so

do not take the trouble of going to the source documents, viz, Vedas

I have one proposal. I intend to scan them, convert them into PDF

format and

post them in your . This will have two advantages.

Firstly, all

people who do not have copies of your earlier ephemeres will be able

to read

them. Secondly, since the documents will be in PDF format, it will

not be

necessary for readers to take the trouble of installing some special

fonts

to read Sanskrit / Hindi quotations.

Kindly reply and let me know whether you have any objection.

With sincere regards and all best wishes

Yours sincerely

Dear Friends,

Namaste

In this regard, I have uploaded a file " 1999b.doc " in MSWORD format

on this

forum. It contains almost all the proofs that are required to

substantiate

my contention that we must celebrate all our festivals and muhurtas

in

accordance with the seasonal year and align our lunar festivals

besides

adhika/kshyaya masa to the same. Unfortunately, these days we are

aligning

all our festivals and ..
