Guest guest
Dear Goel ji, I thank you for taking note of my query and remembering to reply. I do understand that the classics have assigned these 8 kinds of motions to the planets. Of these only vakra and anuvakra apply to the retrograde planets. For all other motions, the planet is direct. Some cognizance of this motion has been taken in shadbal. A Vakra retrograde planet is powerful and gets the full Cheshta Bala (i.e. 60 Virupas). Anuvakra planets get 50% of strength (30 Virupas). When you say, // The degree of retrogression should always be considered.// I wanted to understand what exactly you meant by the above statement. How would the degree of retrogression affect? Some of the points could be: Is it the same principle as for direct planets? That is, actual longitude of the retrograde planet. That could give us its strength in vargas. How far it has gone into retrogression, like Saturn and Jupiter remain in retrogression for about 120 days, and mars for 65 days and moves only 12 degrees as it becomes very slow. Can it give us any help in predictions? Do we get any reference to this in classics?Whether it remains in the same rashi or has become heen, i.e gone to the previous rashi (anuvakra).Where can we see the effect, in nativity, dasha or transit? As it is, there are many different viewpoints in the classics and otherwise about the behaviour of retro planets. So far there is no consensus on their performance. Taking degrees also can only add to the confusion, if we are not sure about the basics. As that article is getting delayed , I wish to respond in brief. BPHS AND OTHER SCRIPTURES INDICATE EIGHT KIND OF MOTIONS TO TARA grahs- Mars to Saturn; 1.Vakra 2. Anuvakra 3. Vikla 4.Manda 5.MANDATRA6.Sama7.Chara 8. Atichara. These eight motions are directly linked with the angular distance of these planets with SUN and viewed or translated into Chesta Bala. and distance of planet from Earth. This is the reason that makes the Sun Lagna important. Regards, G.K.GOEL
