Guest guest
Dear Seniors, I have noticed that for same DOB /TOB/POB values, different softwares are giving different lagna and navamsa charts. The problems are more accentuated when dealing with older dates (1800's ). The ascendant degree and planets position are getting totally changed. Could you please guide me about softwares ...at least the software you find reasonably okay ? regards Chakraborty This Message was sent from Indian Oil Messaging Gateway, New Delhi, India. Guest guest
Dear Chakroborty ji, J.Hora is one of the worlds best Softwares, without doubt. But i have never ever made any chart on the PC for birth charts before 1925 ( Maximum ), so am not aware of the efficiency of the data before the same. But you can calculate the same manually within 20 minutes to half an hour , if its very important and if you ahve the ephemeris for that date. regards, Bhaskar. , " Chakraborty, PL " <CHAKRABORTYP2 wrote: > > Dear Seniors, > > I have noticed that for same DOB /TOB/POB values, different > softwares are giving different lagna and navamsa charts. Guest guest
Dear Chakraborty ji and all, I was calculating the planetary positions using Lahari ephemeris or Local panchangas and correcting the planetary longitudes by using Chandrahari Ayanamsa difference before 2004 for all the charts I casted, and was not using any software for calculation purpose. By around 2004 I started using Prophet (A Kerala astrology software) and then shifted to JHora. Due to the ease of use, now too I am using JHora itself. But I am well aware that even though many argue that JHora is accurate and used Swiss ephemeris etc; for sure JHora does not use accurate Swiss emphemeris effectively and gives erronious results at many occasions. (For example for older dates, for near to pole latitudes, non-existing dates such as 30th Feb etc etc). I would never bet with anyone about the accuracy of JHora but would definitely say that it is the most feature rich and friendly astro tool available today. So I am still with JHora. Even though PVR states that JHora can be used to calculated dates from BC 5000 to AD 5000 or so, it is better NOT TO depend on JHora calculations for such distant ancient and future dates. Any way I am also well aware that other available tools like PL etc are also no better when it comes to such distant ancient dates. If we are in need of accurate planetary positions for the very ancient dates then it would be better to depend directly on Swiss ephemeris to get the Tropical planetary position and then convert it to nirayana longitudes manually. But then numerous hurdles like 'Ayanamsa to be used for that year', converting dates from Julian date to Gregorian date etc will surface and the task no more will remain a simple one. So the choice is upto the seekers of astrological wisdom to choose what they need, select a tool accordingly and arrive at the possibly most accurate data and info. I agree with Bhaskar ji when he states - ==> > But you can calculate the same manually within 20 minutes to half an hour , if its very important > and if you have the ephemeris for that date. <== True! Usually when going for temple prashna or family prashna, kerala astrologers cannot usually take a computer along with (but this is changing with the advent of notbook PCs, laptops etc), and will have to depend on Kavadi kriya using vakyas or modern ephemeris. Since I am not an expert in Kavadi kriya like the old scholarly astrologers of kerala, I had almost always depended on good ephemeris (like Matrubhumi panchanga, Jyotisha Bhooshanam panchanga, Lahari ephemeris etc) for calculation pupose in my professional astrological practice days; and now depends on a computer with some good astrology software like JHora. (and is no more a professional astrologer). I have a high regard for PVR for his gift of JHora to the world for free, but does not have much regard for the astro school he belongs to (i.e. SJC) which spreads numerous absurd, useless and erroneous concepts. But even the SJC contribution should be valued much when it comes to the task of popularizing astrology in India and throughout the world - in which they rank the top most.
