Guest guest
Colombo: A popular Sri Lankan astrologer was unable to foresee his own arrest after his family said on Friday he had been taken into custody by police for making an unfavourable political prediction against the president. The police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested astrologer Chandrasiri Bandara after he predicted political changes unfavourable to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a meeting of the main opposition United National Party. " He is being questioned over a political statement he made, " police spokesman Ranjith Gunasekara said, without elaborating. Given that many Sri Lankans give credence to astrological predictions, astrologers can play a role in influencing decisions at the voting booth and have done so in the past. Sri Lankans from all walks of life follow astrology very closely, and politicians frequently consult personal astrologers to help them decide the most auspicious day, hour and minute to do anything from facing elections to assuming office. Bandara writes a popular astrology column, hosts TV and radio shows discussing horoscopes and gives private readings for a fee. " He has been questioned for the last three days and he was taken into custody by the CID, " a family member told Reuters, asking not to be named out of fear of reprisal. Rajapaksa's opponents say his administration has been intolerant of criticism, and has not stopped assaults and murders of journalists critical of his government. Rajapaksa has vowed to catch those responsible. This week, a coalition of media and rights groups urged him to reconsider a decision to reinstate the long-unused Press Council, which has the power to jail and fine journalists. " A media culture cannot be based on slapping charges against journalists, fining them or sending them to jail, " the group said in a statement. The government said the move was made on a parliamentary committee recommendation that it should be reinstated since the council's staff and office rent was still being paid despite the fact it was doing no work. " It was a directive by a parliamentary committee which some opposition members are also on, " said secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information A Dissanayake. Guest guest
We cannot blame the astrologers every time. First of all no astrologer is complete, or having complete knowledge. Secondly unless he is also a spiritual person, he cannot always know what is going to happen with his own self. And even if he comes to know that so n so is going to happen to him, unless he is a Yogi he cannot do anything about it. And even Yogis normally leave the fate to its own, and dont interfere with the course of destiny until a great cause is in sight. For instance a astrologer may know that he is going to die in so n so period, he may also know that he may die through a snake bite, and he may make arrangements to see that nothing crawling comes near him, but on the fated day, he would not be allowed to have the intelligence to note the openings or sources from which the snake may enter near his person and bite him. We are but mortals, human beings and made of earth, who have to finally join the earth. We cannot be expected to be perfect. I know many things which may happen to me in future, but most of them I cannot change or take precautionary measures, not just due to limitations of my own, but also due to influences of external influences which cannot be changed at all. The best precaution one may take in this Life, and the best security blanket one can get, is TO HELP OTHERS, HIS BRETHREN and BE NORMALLY GOOD. Donate some money from ones income, in cash or kind, have some formal or informal moment or long moments in worship of the Creator, and also remember Him and thank Him always whenever you are Happy. After doing this, Leave it to HIM. regards.Bhaskar. , " Chandu2chill " <nanna_id2006 wrote: > > Colombo: A popular Sri Lankan astrologer was unable to foresee his own arrest after his family said on Friday he had been taken into custody by police for making an unfavourable political prediction against the president. > > Sri Lankans from all walks of life follow astrology very closely, and politicians frequently consult personal astrologers to help them > decide the most auspicious day, hour and minute to do anything from facing elections to assuming office. Guest guest
Chandrasiri Bandara, the astrologer was made popular by certain Media Channels....Sure, he comes for discussions on TV, Radio etc. But let me tell you, I am not at all satisfied with his so called predictions...he is more a psychologist than an astrologer. I used to listen to his programmes long time ago...and got fed up as his analyses were hardly based on astrology. He was very good at giving advice more than predictions. Can anyone call this astrology? But his rates are exorbitant. We have a few good astrologers who charge very much less and do justice to astrology. No government has the right to arrest an astrologer just because of an adverse prediction...but we must not forget that " one reaps what one sows " . May be this was long overdue.. Media may say anything..Don't judge a book by its cover. blessings, Renu , " Chandu2chill " <nanna_id2006 wrote: > > Colombo: A popular Sri Lankan astrologer was unable to foresee his own arrest after his family said on Friday he had been taken into custody by police for making an unfavourable political prediction against the president. > > Sri Lankans from all walks of life follow astrology very closely, and politicians frequently consult personal astrologers to help them > decide the most auspicious day, hour and minute to do anything from facing elections to assuming office. Guest guest
Dear chandu ji ,renu ji and respected Bhaskar ji No astrologer can predict his own chart unless he is very good and spiritual person ( same way no good doctor cannot treat himself ) even we know some of our period may not b good and may end up in trouble but we need not care in correct time when the fate is striking on u ( like bhaskar also mentioned ) many of the media created astrologers are not very good astrologers ,being in astrology i know tricks and technics employed by media and astrologers ,also astrologers who wants some quick fame and money goes for it and media gets a good income along with the astrologer ( sure tru his advtmnts and his TV shows other than some discussions showing in media ) ,This is commercialism happened to astrology and every thing controlled by media as opinion makers ,each TV shows the channels charge rs 30 to 100 thousands to the astrologers depending on popularity and viewer ship rating of channels .Public thinks the astrologer is famous and so media is running after him ,so rushs to meet this astrologers in what ever cost and astrologer mints money .political predictions esp involving with any one we shud also think that the chart of a person is his prvt affair and unless and until there is a true need we shud not predict for some popularity or publicity .even astrological texts also warns astrologers always check to whom we r giving prediction and the nature of query .even a son asking longitivity of own father need not b having good intention in his mind ,so texts warns us to check this first before giving out predictions so there is no harm in booking such astrologers under law and they shud b punished too even How many astrologers realy Knows correct birth chart of shri Mahinda Ji ( srilnkan prime minister ) ,like all asian polititcians and celebrities so many birth charts and birth time may b floating around and so who has givin this astrologer even correct birth time and birth chart .While during elections we predict victory or defeat during astrological discussion is a diffrnt matter altogether esp in astro -discussion forums ,even the so called atheists who floats big advtmnts and prizes during every election time ( even sends prvt mails also to all astrologers ) ,i asked them to giv the correct certified birth charts ( they shud vouch for its authencity ) which they will never supply and re appears only when elections r over as if no astrologers has guts to take up their challenge .So he was even misusing the position as astrologer for some personal gains in the name of predicting for most famous politiition of sub continent who was attention of world and media recently .Astrologer if he was realy worried he shud hav sent this prediction to prez himself than publicizing it tru media some phychology astrologers see the trends and predicts and finaly land themselv s in trouble even navagrahs will punish them as even he is not caring their signals So such astrologers fate will b even beyond the scope of their chart s ( means due to wrath of navagrahs and almighty Lord itself for playing god ) ,it is again part of karma theory which all eastern religions teach us what we sow ,we will reap rgrds sunil nair -> , "Chandu2chill"> nanna_id2006@ wrote:> >> > Colombo: A popular Sri Lankan astrologer was unable to foresee his own> arrest after his family said on Friday he had been taken into custody by> police for making an unfavourable political prediction against the> president.> >> > The police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested astrologer> Chandrasiri Bandara after he predicted political changes unfavourable to> President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a meeting of the main opposition United> National Party.> >> > "He is being questioned over a political statement he made," police> spokesman Ranjith Gunasekara said, without elaborating.> >> > Given that many Sri Lankans give credence to astrological predictions,> astrologers can play a role in influencing decisions at the voting booth> and have done so in the past.> >> > Sri Lankans from all walks of life follow astrology very closely, and> politicians frequently consult personal astrologers to help them> > decide the most auspicious day, hour and minute to do anything from> facing elections to assuming office.> >> > Bandara writes a popular astrology column, hosts TV and radio shows> discussing horoscopes and gives private readings for a fee.> >> > "He has been questioned for the last three days and he was taken into> custody by the CID," a family member told Reuters, asking not to be> named out of fear of reprisal.> >> > Rajapaksa's opponents say his administration has been intolerant of> criticism, and has not stopped assaults and murders of journalists> critical of his government. Guest guest
Dear Sunil ji, Thanks for your effective thoughts. //so there is no harm in booking such astrologers under law and they shud b punished too // If my memory serves me right...I think even Sri K. N. Rao mentioned something similar to this...'that bogus astrologers should be brought to law'...in one of his books. I agree. If he was truly concerned, he should have written to the President privately. But you and I know that this is all 'dirty politics'. blessings, Renu , " sunil nair " <astro_tellerkerala wrote: > > > Dear chandu ji ,renu ji and respected Bhaskar ji > > No astrologer can predict his own chart unless he is very good and > spiritual person ( same way no good doctor cannot treat himself ) > even we know some of our period may not b good and may end up in trouble > but we need not care in correct time when the fate is striking on u ( > like bhaskar also mentioned ) > > many of the media created astrologers are not very good astrologers > ,being in astrology i know tricks and technics employed by media and > astrologers ,also astrologers who wants some quick fame and money goes > for it and media gets a good income along with the astrologer ( sure tru > his advtmnts and his TV shows other than some discussions showing in > media ) ,This is commercialism happened to astrology and every thing > controlled by media as opinion makers ,each TV shows the channels charge > rs 30 to 100 thousands to the astrologers depending on popularity and > viewer ship rating of channels .Public thinks the astrologer is famous > and so media is running after him ,so rushs to meet this astrologers in > what ever cost and astrologer mints money . > > political predictions esp involving with any one we shud also think that > the chart of a person is his prvt affair and unless and until there is a > true need we shud not predict for some popularity or publicity . > > even astrological texts also warns astrologers always check to whom we r > giving prediction and the nature of query .even a son asking longitivity > of own father need not b having good intention in his mind ,so texts > warns us to check this first before giving out predictions > > so there is no harm in booking such astrologers under law and they shud > b punished too > > even How many astrologers realy Knows correct birth chart of shri > Mahinda Ji ( srilnkan prime minister ) ,like all asian polititcians and > celebrities so many birth charts and birth time may b floating around > and so who has givin this astrologer even correct birth time and birth > chart . > > While during elections we predict victory or defeat during astrological > discussion is a diffrnt matter altogether esp in astro -discussion > forums ,even the so called atheists who floats big advtmnts and prizes > during every election time ( even sends prvt mails also to all > astrologers ) ,i asked them to giv the correct certified birth charts ( > they shud vouch for its authencity ) which they will never supply and re > appears only when elections r over as if no astrologers has guts to take > up their challenge . > > So he was even misusing the position as astrologer for some personal > gains in the name of predicting for most famous politiition of sub > continent who was attention of world and media recently . > > Astrologer if he was realy worried he shud hav sent this prediction to > prez himself than publicizing it tru media > > some phychology astrologers see the trends and predicts and finaly land > themselv s in trouble > > even navagrahs will punish them as even he is not caring their signals > > So such astrologers fate will b even beyond the scope of their chart s ( > means due to wrath of navagrahs and almighty Lord itself for playing god > ) ,it is again part of karma theory which all eastern religions teach us > > what we sow ,we will reap > > rgrds sunil nair > > -
