Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Swee, I am forwarding the message I had sent to some other list. Hope you find the link useful. regards, Lakshmi ---- The following extract, regarding lunar fortnight of 13 days, is from from the site http://india.krishna.org/Articles/2003/01/018.html Please do visit it, because a person like you, with a penchant for research, would find it very interesting. Strange phenomenon ------------------- Astrologically a strange phenomenon occurred during the Mahabharata war. The lunar cycle (paksha - normally is 15 days) sometimes happens in fourteen days. But during the time of the Mahabharata war- a rare thing happened - the paksha got compressed to 13 days. (May be 13 is an inauspicious number). This aspect has been discussed in the Bhishma parva - 3rd Adhyaaya. Guru and Shani are in Vaishaaka, Moon and the Sun entered in the same house one after the other making amaavaasya on the Trayodasi day itself. This peculiar condensation of the tithis into thirteen from fifteen is a rare phenomenon. Vyaasa in the Mahabharata discussed this subject and this was inevitably followed by mass destruction due to the war. This incident provided a direct means to establish the precise date of Mahabharata war. According to Julian calendar this type of planetary collusion occurred definitely in 3076 BC in November. Vyaasa writes: Caturdashiim panchadashiim Bhuuta puurvamca shoodhashiim Imaantu naabhi jaaneham Amaavaasyaam trayodashiim Chandra suurya bhougrastou Ekamevam trayodashiim AparvaNi grahaNe tou Prajaa sakshapaishyataH " I have seen fourteen days a paksha, fifteen day completion or extension to sixteenth day also. This amaavaasya falling on the thirteenth day itself, I have never seen before " Vyasa says that, Sun and Moon eclipses falling on the same month during the missing tithis is a rare phenomenon, resulting in large- scale disasters to people. Yadu dynasty destroyed ----------------------- 36 years after the Mahabharata war, the Yadu dynasty was destroyed. Lord Krishna predicted this happening in astrological terms. " Rahu has compressed Purnima on Chaturdasi day. This happened once before the Mahabharata war and will be happening again soon. This will lead to our destruction " . By mentioning the forthcoming destruction of the Yadu dynasty Lord Krishna was remembering Gandhari's curse on the Yadu dynasty. sohamsa , " Swee Chan " <swee@c...> wrote: > > Jaya Jagannatha > > > > Dear Lists, > > Namaste > > > > Does anyone have the indicative date of the Mahabharata War? Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Smt. Laksmi, Namaste I am reading the Mahabharata on line.....in the Bhisma Parva, Section 10 of the Jamvu-kanda Nirmana Parva talks about the longevity of the people during the Dvapara era (Mahabharata) http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m06/m06010.htm While the Bhumi Parva talks about Saptamsa (the 7 islands of creation). The date suggested in the link you've given is not being substantiated with the exact references. From Narada Purana Purva Bhaga Adhyaya 56 sloka 147-148, days of the commencement of the Yugas and days of the commencement of the Manus in the same chapter, slokas 149 -152 are quoted as below. However, it maybe pertinent for us to ascertain which Manu we are in...... any ideas? If Vedavyasa catalogued all the events of the Mahabharata long before it happened, we should really be looking at one of the Vedas (which were written first) or perhaps in the Puranas. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Gordon, Namaste Thank you for this important piece of information. I read in the Srimad Bhagavatam that after Rahu came into existence, then Saturn (sorrow) came into existence. This also suggests that Saturn may not necessarily have to be involved in the stellium but can in aspect. Can you please generate this possibility from your software? Thanks very much. Guest guest
Dear Rishi, Thanks for your suggestion. I am aware of the 1962 stellium. Prior to that was 1524, then 531 then3243 BC, and then 4019 BC. The 4500 years I was referring to were between 4019 BC and 531 AD. Guest guest
|| Om Gurave Namah || Dear Gordon and Jyotishas, When computing positions of graha for different yuga, Do you think a 30 degree difference is needed for the Ayanamsha?. Example. Aries is Satyuga, Pisces Dwapara, Aquarius is Treta, Capricorn is Kaliyuga, So for Treta yuga calculations shouldnt we do a difference of 30 to computed ayanamsha?. and 60degrees for Dwapara, etc? -Warm Regards Sanjay P On 1/23/06, GWBrennan <GWBrennan wrote: Dear Swee In a space of just over 4500 years there was only one stellium of Rahu or Ketu with all 7 planets. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Rishi, Dear Gordon, Namaste Rishi, Thanks but no thanks. I have no interest when it comes to opinions of scientists. So is it tithi or solar days? What do you think? The exact quote from there is not referenced. Would have helped me much. Anyone? Gordon, in my last reply to you, what I meant was that there was an eclipse and that eclipse " gave birth " to Saturn....... Thank you. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Swee, I'll have to go through the relevant chapters of Maha bharata before I can answer you on the finer details. But I think the crunching of lunar fortnight into 13 days is a well known fact and is rare enough to be considered as a vital lead in establishing the date of Maha bharata war. Perhaps our younger and computer savvy friends can help out in isolating such instances. Which Manvantara are you talking about...the one in which Maha bharata was set? I'll verify tomorrow and get back to you. The present one running, as you very well know, is Vaivaswata manvantara. I think Valmiki also wrote Ramayana before it happened and yet all the relevant details could be got from Ramayana itself. Such was the vision and vaak shuddhi of the saintly poet!! Veda Vyasa was very much a contemporary part of Maha Bharat and he dictated Bhagavad gita to Ganesha just as it rolled off the Lord's lips. Isn't it so? I really do not know if some other texts talked about Maha bharat, other than Bhagavatham. Bipin may not be that lucky in Tirupati, because 26th is a national holiday and we in Tirupati can already feel the heat and rush. And, I am not even mentioning the detour of delegates of congress session in progress at Hyderabad. But he will have a decent darshan of the Lord. Guest guest
The 3129 BCJ eclipse pair has some significance in the sense of traditionally accepted date of Mahabharata is some 20-30 years before Kaliyuga start of 3102 BC. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Swee, Namaste. Thanks for the references, but where is it mentioned here that Sri Krishna left His body 36 years or 27 years after Maha Bharata War? These shlokas only say that on the day Krishna chose to leave, the Indra sabha and Parijata also left and that Kali Purusha arrived. Where's the reference to the number of years? I think it is only mentioned by Vayudeva that the duration of krishna avatara was " varShaaNaamadhikam shatam " ...that it was more than 100 years since the advent of Krishna, and its time He hastened back to heaven. Or, have i missed something? Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Lakshmi, Namaste Exactly my point. Even that, it wasn't quite the beginning of Kali Yuga the very day. Some stayed on for sometime until the deluge. Need to check elsewhere. Where in the Vayu Purana can I check this up? I will check it out. I was busy in town and came back and found those passages. Do correct my mistakes as it was not meant to be sent. Ooops. Love, Swee sohamsa [sohamsa ] On Behalf Of B Lakshmi Ramesh Tuesday, January 24, 2006 4:10 PM sohamsa Re: Mahabharata War Om Gurave Namah Dear Swee, Namaste. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Sreenadh, Namaste What you are suggesting here is that during Dvapara, the 28 nakshatras were used in the scheme of things and that during the current age of Kali Yuga we are to abandon it? So if we starting the zodiac from 0 deg Mesha, when do we place the Vrishabha Age? Love, Swee vedic astrology [vedic astrology ] On Behalf Of Sreenadh Tuesday, January 24, 2006 5:40 PM vedic astrology Re: [Jaya Jagannatha] RE: [vedic astrology] Mahabharata War Dear Swee, The 28 Nakshatra scheam was used when the geocentric path of moon was used for the nakshatra divisions. Originally such divisions were counted from Abhijith Nakshatra (Since if only you count nakshatras from Abhijith, all Yoga Tharas will fall with in their respective divisions). But later this system become corrected and to correct the zodiac division system based on systematic mathametical foundation, division geocentric path of sun in to 27 equal parts (13 degree 20 min each) was introduced. Abhijith was very far away from this path, and there for left out from the scheam. Thus came into existance the 27 Nakshatra scheam of equal division. Hope this helps, Love, Sreenadh vedic astrology , " Swee Chan " <swee@c...> wrote: > > Jaya Jagannatha > > > > Dear Sunil, > > Namaste > > > > Why 27 years and not 28 to include Abhijit Nakshatra? > > > > Love, > > Swee > > > > _____ > > On > Behalf Of Sunil John > Tuesday, January 24, 2006 10:49 AM > ; vedic astrology > Cc: SJCA > Re: [Jaya Jagannatha] RE: [vedic astrology] Mahabharata War > > > > The 3129 BCJ eclipse pair has some significance in the sense of > traditionally accepted date of Mahabharata is some 20-30 years before > Kaliyuga start of 3102 BC. Guest guest
Dear Swee, Beginning of Kaliyuga is said to coincide with death of Lord Krishna. So end of Mahabharata has, perhaps, nothing to do with beginning of Kaliyuga. Lord Krishna is said to have lived for 125 years so adding 125 to the birth of Lord Krishna should indicate beginning of Kaliyuga. Chandrashekhar. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Bharat, Lakshmi, et al, Namaste In the tale of the Syamantaka gem (reference: Vishnu and Brahma Purana) given by the Sun to Prasena, was taken by a bear and retrieved by Krishna, the reign was for 60 years and later it was adorned on Krishna. The 60 year cycle constitutes the 1st cycle of Jupiter (Samvatsara) Would it make more sense that Krishna lived for 120 years, making up the 2 Jupiterian cycles (and the vimsottari dasa - Moon)?? Guest guest
Dear Swee, Lord Krishna was born with Purnaavataar Yoga and lived for 125 years.
