Guest guest
Dear Darshaneyji, Namaste, It is a pleasure hearing from you.. Further, I hope you will also agree that the word " Panchaanga " by definition includes the Nakshatras as one of the five " Angas " . So in my opinion it is wrong for Shri Kaul to say that the Hindu calendar has to be without reference to the Nakshatras. Thus the Hindu calendar has to be Sidereal but the Seasonal months can be superimposed on it and the seasonal year will begin from the month of " Tapa " , which will start from the first shukla pratipada after the Winter Solstice. Hope you will agree to this. Secondly, Shri kaul probably does not know that the Atharva Jyotisha does mention " Vara " , which is another " Anga " of Panchaanga " . He is unnecessarily says that the Hindus borrowed the concept from the Greeks. To prove his point he will not hesitate to lower the antiquity of our Vedas and the Vedangas. I don't know how my other Hindu friends are tolerating him so long. Thirdly, he is unnecessarily harping on the issue of Rashi. Present-day Hindu calendars mention Rashi as the Hindu calendar is also used by the followers of Hindu astrology. If Shri kaul wants to produce a Hindu calendar without Rashi and want to ignore Hindu astrology there is no problem, except that his calendar will not sell, but he cannot ignore the Nakshatras at all. With his Chaturai (cunningness) he cannot convert Panchaanga to a Chaturaanga (ie.with four " Angas " ). Rashis are not required in Brahmana texts as the Rashis are not useful in the rituals but the Rashis are mentioned in the Puranas (the Fifth Veda) and Vayu Purana specially mentioned the how the 27 Nakshatras are distributed among the 12 Rashis. Even a school-boy will understand this that Rashis are by definition Sidereal and the Tropical Rashis are fake Rashis.but Shri Kaul is unable to understand this. It is a pity that David Pingree's bhoot (spirit) has possessed him and you and me cannot do anything about it. I now look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Sunil K.
