Guest guest
Namaste, If JHora is closed and re-opened after the timezone change, it should be using the right timezone. Guest guest
On Sunday the day light saving is in effect. Compare your PC time with http://nist.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java If the times are different, then do the following: Double click on the time in your task bar (right hand bottom corner) Click on Time Zone tab Check the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes If this does not help, read through: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst After this, hopefully the problem should be rectified. Guest guest
Dear Narasimha, I have never encountered this before. I have used JHora 7.1 and 7.2 successfully. I did not notice that 7.2 was not accurate based on the time shown on my computer until I downloaded 7.3. Then, as I said, both versions now show a time difference of 1 hour. I set 7.3 for the default location, which is still EST, but the time shows EST standard not daylight saving. There may be something that has to do with manually setting 4 or 5 hours west of GMT, but again since the computer time is accurate, I am not certain what to change. I have a MacIntel laptop partitioned with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, which is where I have JHora. But this problem of the time difference was not a factor in previous versions I have used of JHora, which is the only Jyotish program I use. I have a small trial CD of Parashara Light on my MacIntosh, but this does not save programs. However, I did do a test to verify if the PL was working effectively for the time change for the Saturn-Moon conjunction today at 6:26 PM EST; the PL shows the time to be at 5:26 PM. Somehow, these programs are not adapting to the Time change, even though the computer time shows Daylight Saving time, and this occurred automatically. I hope you can suggest a solution. Thank you. Guest guest
Dear Narasimha, I am reposting to clarify my earlier post and to ask if you know of a way that I can now delete the 7.32 version and restore the 7.2 version of JHora? Previously JHora was completely accurate (7.1 and 7.2), but now today I have compared the PL Light at 11:26 AM, which shows MO 20:42 Le lagna 23:11 Ar [80W28'40 25N28'06 Timezone 05:00:00] JHora at the same time shows Moon 19:32 Le , lagna 20 54 Ar [80W28'40 25N28'06 Timezone 04:00:00]. These again are two different Mac computers (Mac G4 OS 10.4.11) and MacIntel partitioned with Windows XP Professional SP II. But the computer time in both computers is set accurately to reflect the time change effective March 9 (and should be 4 hours west of GMT). If I manually enter the information into JHora and PL Light, for example, of Moon-conjunct Saturn at 6:26 PM EST today (March 10), then both systems are the same, but PL shows a Timezone of 05 and JH shows a time zone of 04. So I am further confused now about how to correct to be able to use JHora precisely. I would appreciate your assistance. Guest guest
Namaste, I am confused about your complaint now. I wonder why PL is using a timezone of 5 west. The correct time zone should be 4 west. The daylight saving time started on last Sunday. JHora is correct in taking 4 hrs west timezone on US east coast now. Moreover, Moon-Saturn conjunction is indeed around 6:30 pm EDT today, i.e. using 4 hrs west of GMT. In the old days, daylight savings time used to start in April. Now it starts in March itself. The new law was passed by US government a few years back. Thanks, Narasimha ---- Janna Lynn <jnanalynn wrote: > > > Dear Narasimha, > > I am reposting to clarify my earlier post and to ask if you know of a way that I can now delete the 7.32 version and restore the 7.2 version of JHora? > > Previously JHora was completely accurate (7.1 and 7.2), but now today I have compared the PL Light at 11:26 AM, which shows MO 20:42 Le lagna 23:11 Ar [80W28'40 25N28'06 Timezone 05:00:00] > > JHora at the same time shows Moon 19:32 Le , lagna 20 54 Ar [80W28'40 25N28'06 Timezone 04:00:00]. > > These again are two different Mac computers (Mac G4 OS 10.4.11) and MacIntel partitioned with Windows XP Professional SP II. Guest guest
Namaaste Narasimha, I will try to clarify: Time 13:55 PM EST 80 W28 25 N28 1) PL (Light) Moon 22:10 Leo; lagna 27:23 Gemini Time Zone 05:00 2) JHora 7.32 Time shows 12:54 (but JHora shows 12:55 PM Time Zone 4) Moon 20 Leo; lagna 29: 54 Taurus 3) Junior Jyotish Time 13:55 PM EST 80 W28 25 N28 Time Zone 5 Moon 22 Leo; lagna 27 Ge Computer shows 13:55 PM. If this time is accurate, why does JHora show a time of 12:55? And which of the calculations for the correct time is accurate, Moon at 22 degrees at 13:55 PM EST or Moon at 20 degrees? I do not understand why the TIME in JHora is back one hour (reflecting standard time of 12:55), but the time zone of 4 hours west of GMT is accurate. Which is accurate? I only use JHora for calculations. Guest guest
Hi,I use Jhora on a window xp prof parallel desktop on a Macbook. There is no problem in both the notebook and jhora showing exact times.I may point out that when Jhora first runs it may show the time zone of the region where Windows parallel desktop was first installed. For example I had mine installed when I travelled to India, so by default it shows IST. My notebook shows GMT, so I have to wait for a while before Windows corrects its time zone and time.RegardsSharatOn 10 Mar 2009, at 18:06, Janna Lynn wrote:Namaaste Narasimha,I will try to clarify:Time 13:55 PM EST 80 W28 25 N281) PL (Light)Moon 22:10 Leo; lagna 27:23 Gemini Time Zone 05:002) JHora 7.32 Time shows 12:54 (but JHora shows 12:55 PM Time Zone 4) Moon 20 Leo; lagna 29: 54 Taurus3) Junior Jyotish Time 13:55 PM EST 80 W28 25 N28 Time Zone 5Moon 22 Leo; lagna 27 Ge Computer shows 13:55 PM. Guest guest
Thank you, Sharat, but I'm not sure that is the problem I am having (and I confess to not fully understand it). Here is another scenario to add to the one I gave to Narasimha. You will see that the lagna is different in JHora for the time 18:26 PM (6:26 PM EST) 10 March although the Moon is the same in all three, and all three use Lahiri ayanamsha: Time 18:26 PM EST 80 W28 25 N28 March 10, 2009 1) PL (Light) Time 18:26 PM EST Moon 24:48 Leo; lagna 6:47 Leo Time Zone 05:00 3) Junior Jyotish Time 18:26 (6:26 PM EST) 80 W28 25 N28 Time Zone 5 Moon 24:48 Leo; lagna 6:47 Leo Time Zone 05:00 But JHora does not show this information. Which is correct? 2) JHora 7.32 Time shows 12:54 (Time manually input in JHora of 18:26 PM Time Zone 4) Moon 24:13 Leo (conjunct Saturn); lagna 13 * Leo If that doesn't help, can someone tell me how to uninstall ALL JHora programs so that I can try to begin new? Unfortunately this will destroy all the chart data I have patiently erected over the past few years, and I don't want to do that, but I don't think JHora is giving me accurate data now, so I am confused about what to do. Again, 7.1 and 7.2 matched exactly the computer time and the window that automatically appears in JHora, but in 7.32, it does not. Thank you. Janna Computer shows 13:55 PM. Thank you, Janna jhora , Sharat Misra <gidoc wrote: > > Hi, > I use Jhora on a window xp prof parallel desktop on a Macbook. Guest guest
Dear Sharat: To now add to my frustation, I deinstalled JHora 7.32 and only have JHora 7.1, which now shows the difference of 3:22 PM EST on my laptop, but 2:22 on JHora 7.1 Time Zone 4. Prior to downloading JH 7.32, I did not have this problem. The Moon is 21* Leo and Lagna is 19* Gemini, Time Zone 4 80 W 28 25 N 28 inJHora (in PL Light, the Moon is 23* Leo and the Lagna is 16:43 Cancer). Unfortunately I now have a work commitment and will not be able to do much until Wednesday. This is further problematical because I am primarily a Mac user and really can't get my way out of the maizes of PC-Windows scenario. So any help will be appreciated at some time. Guest guest
Hi Janna,I also am a Mac user & use CrossOver to run JH3 - it works great. Go through your Finder to see all the JH folders & save the "charts" folder out on your desktop or to a flash drive so you don't loose all your charts.I have the problem that with daylight savings JH is jumping back 2 hours instead of one, but everything else is fine (as far as I've seen). Let me know if I can help you with CrossOver.JulliOn Mar 10, 2009, at 3:28 PM, Janna Lynn wrote: Dear Sharat: To now add to my frustation, I deinstalled JHora 7.32 and only have JHora 7.1, which now shows the difference of 3:22 PM EST on my laptop, but 2:22 on JHora 7.1 Time Zone 4. Guest guest
Thanks, Julli,I had tuned into the discussion on Crossover earlier in the year, but I am using the MacIntel laptop, which is partitioned with Windows, and so is just like a PC and runs Windows XP Pro SP 2. This is where I have JHora, and I don't know how to save my chart files because I am not knowledgeable about PCs! When I uninstalled JH 7.23 it said not all components were uninstalled, so now 7.1 is doing the same thing with the time that JH 7.23 did. Because I had been following the conversations about bugs in JH 7.23, I deliberately did not download it, then impulsively did so yestesday and now regret doing it since it is the only program I use and I had relied on its accuracy. And now I don't have any confidence that the lagna and moon are accurate according to the time and time zone that shows on JH. (Perhaps appropos of this full moon conjunct SA in H2-H8 for me.) So I have to run now to work, and will hope that someone on the list can help me. Guest guest
Namaste, To get the current time, JHora simply asks the computer. If your computer clock shows 13:54 but JHora takes 12:54, it suggests that JHora is misinterpreting the localtime structure coming from the operating system. I will look into it. If I give you an update tomorrow night, will you be able to try it out and let me know the result? If you manually edit the time to whatever your computer shows, all calculations of JHora should be accurate. The timezone used by JHora is accurate. The current time zone on the east coast is indeed 4:00 west and JHora is correct on that count. Thanks, Narasimha ---- Janna Lynn <jnanalynn wrote: > Thank you, Sharat, but I'm not sure that is the problem I am having (and I confess to not fully understand it). > > Here is another scenario to add to the one I gave to Narasimha. Guest guest
Thank you so much, Narasimha. Yes, I will try the update. I still have JH 7.32 zipped on my desktop, so I can re-install it. When I de-installed it, it said that some components would have to be de-installed manually. But I can try re-installing it on Wednesday, if you think this is the best thing to do, especially since now JH 7.1 is showing the same time error between my computer and what shows on the JHora screen. And I again would like to be sure JH is giving me exact data. I thought I had upgraded 7.1 to 7.2. Would there have been another problem in my downloading 7.32 as I did yesteday? And since I'm not PC savvy, would it be possible the system loaded the programs in different places in my program on the C drive, further causing miscommunication? Thank you for your help. Guest guest
Hi Janna,I agree with you that parallel desktop is a much better option than crossover, so no point going there. It seems that there was a problem during your installation process. You should be able to uninstall all Jhora components yet can save the charts, do that by copying the chart data from C drive on win XP and saving it on the Mac drive/USB.I downloaded Jhora on Mac, dragged the zipped folder to My documents on WinXP and then installed it. I then copied all my old chart data on the C drive where Jhora was installed. Before you install Jhora, make sure your Win XP and Mac time are in sync. This may work, let me know.RegardsSharatOn 10 Mar 2009, at 19:56, Janna Lynn wrote:Thank you so much, Narasimha. Guest guest
Namaste, Yes, it does have to do with daylight savings time. It used to start in April and it starts in March now. JHora is taking the correct timezone. Computer clock is also taking the correct timezone. But another windows library seems to be doing the wrong thing. The problem is that JHora uses a windows C++ function called " time " to get the current time in a universal format and then the function " localtime " to convert it to local time (based what windows thinks is the correct timezone). On some windows XP computers (e.g. my 2 computers), it works fine. On my brother's windows XP computer, windows thinks we are still in standard time and converts the universal time given by the clock to the standard time. So, the clock may shows 2:00, but the time given by " localtime " function of windows to JHora is 1:00. The windows libraries that are responsible for the on screen clock display seem to be different from the libraries that are responsible for giving the " localtime " to applications. Some computers seem to have an older version of that library and applying daylight savings time in April instead of March. Thus, current local time given by the computer to JHora on a " localtime " call is in standard time instead of daylight savings time, for dates in March. From April's first Sundy, it will be fine. The solution was to not rely on windows to give the " localtime " accurately. In 7.33 alpha, I am just calling the " gmtime " function of windows (instead of localtime) to get the time in GMT. I convert it to the local timezone based on the timezone of the default location saved by user. This is the safest thing to do, given that different windows versions seem to exhibit different behavior with the " localtime " function. Guest guest
Dear Narasimhaji,I fixed the time change problem with Jhora 7.32 on my computer. In the date and time. time zone change menu of computer, when the time zone remained as central time with - 6.00 hrs to GMT with additional box checked for automatically correcting to DST, computer is showing changed time and jhora is not taking corrected time.I selected the time zone as -5.00 hrs to GMT ( not selecting standard -6.00 hrs Central time with respect to GMT). With this selection, my computer is showing the DST present time and jhora is taking this time.Expect this would be useful to those using 7.32Thanking you andWith Best Regards, B. Moreover, the clock on your computer must be showing the current time correctly in eastern daylight saving time. JHora simply takes the time from your computer. There is nothing for me to fix here. JHora gets the current time from your computer's clock. If the time shown is wrong, please check your PC's clock.
