Namaste friends,

Jagannatha Hora uses " Swiss Ephemeris " as the planetary calculation engine. The

Swiss Ephemeris DLL used by JHora is version 1.64.01 from *June 2002*. Several

bug-fixes and improvements were made in Swiss Ephemeris since June 2002. A

notable improvement occurred in version 1.70, where they improved the

calculation algorithms to satisfy the latest IAU recommendations. They made the

precession model more accurate among other things. For modern dates, this

improvement in accuracy makes a difference of a less than a fraction of arc-sec.

In fact, for dates after 1000 BC, the difference is less than 1 arc-sec. So it

does not matter much. However, for really old dates (e.g. Krishna's chart), this

can make a difference of several arc-min in some planets (especially Moon),

which can change some divisional charts sometimes.

In addition to this improvement in accuracy, several minor bugs, including some

in eclipse times, were also fixed.

In order to take advantage of the more accurate calculations and bug-fixes from

Swiss Ephemeris, I updated JHora to the latest Swiss Ephemeris (version 1.76

from *April 2009*). I am releasing JHora 7.33 beta 3 for that purpose. Apart

from the Swiss Ephemeris update, there is no other change in this (from JHora

7.33 beta 2).

Please download it at

http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/jh/test/jh_update.zip

Unzip it and run jh_update.exe that you get. This will install the latest JHora

(7.33 beta 3) over the pre-existing 7.32 or 7.33 alpha or 7.33 beta or 7.33 beta

2 (whatever 7.3x version you have). This is only an update and not a full

install. You need a pre-existing 7.3x version on your computer to run this

update. Before you run the update, please close any open JHora windows.

Only major bugs will be fixed before the final formal release of 7.33, which is

planned in a few days (after Sraavana maasa comes). If you find any major bugs,

please report them to jhora immediately.

Best regards,

Narasimha

Namaste friends,

One more update. This will hopefully be the last one before the final formal

release. I fixed the issue reported in

jhora/message/2173

The weekday reported by JHora for old dates was wrong. This also affected the

ahargana calculation and kaala bala (abda bala, maasa bala and vaara bala)

within shadbala.

It is fixed in JHora 7.33 beta 4. Update for JHora 7.33 beta 4 can be downloaded

from

http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/jh/test/jh_update.zip

You can unzip this file and get jh_update.exe. IF you have any JHora version

that is 7.3 or later (including 7.32, 7.33 beta, 7.33 beta 2 and 7.33 beta 3),

you can run this jh_update.exe to update the existing version to 7.33 beta 4).

Volunteers can test this and report any major issues. The formal release is

tentatively slated for Wednesday night or Thursday morning (Boston time).

Best regards,

Narasimha
