Important note on reporting your settings to me when problems occur

Dear Anna,

Thanks for confirming in a later email that this was a false alarm.

Now an important note to all:

If I have access to your jhora.ini file, I can use the same settings and

reproduce the problem. I may then be able to figure out what change in settings

caused the behavior you see .

In JHora 7.33 beta 2 and 3, a new menu was added. Go to " View " in top menu and

select " View jhora.ini file (preference settings) in notepad " . Then a notepad

will open and show the content of jhora.ini file under use. Just cut and paste

the content of that file into a mail and send me.

When one reports a problem, I need to get the following:

(1) The birthdata being used

(2) The calculations being questioned (copy the text or give a screenshot)

(3) The calculations you believe are correct

(4) Complete content of your jhora.ini file (preference settings)

If I have the above, I can reproduce the problem and go to the root of it.

Otherwise, I may not be able to help.

Best regards,

Narasimha

The Swiss Ephemeris DLL used by JHora is version 1.64.01 from *June 2002*.

Several bug-fixes and improvements were made in Swiss Ephemeris since June 2002.

A notable improvement occurred in version 1.70, where they improved the

calculation algorithms to satisfy the latest IAU recommendations. They made the

precession model more accurate among other things. For modern dates, this

improvement in accuracy makes a difference of a less than a fraction of arc-sec.

In fact, for dates after 1000 BC, the difference is less than 1 arc-sec. So it

does not matter much. However, for really old dates (e.g. Krishna's chart), this

can make a difference of several arc-min in some planets (especially Moon),

which can change some divisional charts sometimes.

from Swiss Ephemeris, I updated JHora to the latest Swiss Ephemeris (version

1.76 from *April 2009*). I am releasing JHora 7.33 beta 3 for that purpose.

Apart from the Swiss Ephemeris update, there is no other change in this (from

JHora 7.33 beta 2).

Namaste!

I looked up the view Jhora.ini under the View menu item in Jhora 7.33

Beta 3 and could not find any Jhora.ini even just looking for it outside

of Jhora I could not find it <grin>. I use Vista64 so maybe its stuck

somewhere else? I did a search to find it but no luck. Even though I can

save my preferences and they are there when I come back.

Namaste,

The limited time I have for this can be spent more productively if

people spend a little more time to read things more carefully and pay attention.

In the portion quoted below, I said: " In JHora 7.33 beta 2 and 3, a new menu was

added. " You wrote " I have 7.33 beta but " .

Well, the menu I mentioned is in 7.33 beta 2 and 7.33 beta 3 and NOT in 7.33

beta.

Thanks,

Narasimha

Namaste,

No idea. I do not have a Vista computer right now and cannot debug it.

The file jhora.ini should be in jhcore sub-directory of the directory where you

installed JHora.

Well, if it was possible to access jhora.ini file and send it, it would've been

useful for easy debugging. If not, we have to live with it..

Check whether it is marked as a hidden file or something by the OS and not shown

in explorer unless you do something special.

Thanks,

Narasimha
