Namaste,

Please help me understand how to set up the chart calculations in JHora to:

Use tropical zodiac for planetary positions, and

Use sidereal nakshatras.

Also, I want to use the Dhruva Galactic Center, middle of Mula, as my sidereal setting for ayanamsa. In JHora, would that be "Galactic Center at 0Sag0" with an offset adjustment to middle of Mula?

Thank you for your time and help with this!

Namaste,

Somebody else was asking a similar thing a while back, but I did not understand.

Now I think I get it.

You are saying that Aswini is defined as 0-13:20 of *sidereal* zodiac, Bharani

as 13:20-26:40 of *sideral* zodiac and so on, while Aries is defined as 0-30 deg

of *tropical* zodiac, Taurus as 30-60 deg of *tropical* zodiac and so on. Is

that correct? Please confirm.

Such a mode is not defined in JHora, but I suppose I could add it in future. Who

is the proponent of this method?

I don't know. I will need to investigate this a bit to answer.

Best regards,

Narasimha

Hi David,

I see you want both western /tropical/and sideral info in one.

I do see western chart sometimes, but first see sideral because it is superior in determining the strength of planets, navamsa, naksatras & padas, etc. I just keep in mind that say, Aswini in western chart is

0:13:20 PLUS Ayanamsa- in western chart it may fall in 23:13:+... and on to the end of Ar at 30dg and so on, so it is really easy to use,

With Bava chart the difference disappears, depending which house system you use.

Best wishes,

Namaste, Narasimha.

May Lord Ganesh remove all obstacles from your path and grant you peace and prosperity in all things.

Indeed, your understanding is correct. Mr. Ernst Wilhelm, my respected teacher, has done considerable research into this. He has written a paper explaining the difference. As I understand it, the tropical zodiac is a division of the plane called "the ecliptic" which is peculiar to our solar system; while the nakshatras are associated with a different, galactic-based plane.

Certainly, the nakshatra-based dasa systems must be calculated with respect to the plane in which the nakshatras are found. However, things like exaltation points are keyed to the tropical rasis.

I do not pretend to be able to defend this or the choice of the Dhruva Galactic Center, rigorously. My field of study is jyotisha, Hindu and Budhist philosophy, and (what is erroneously called) "the Mayan calendar" along with some Native American astrology, philosophy and metaphysics. My study of the tzolkin ("Mayan calendar") provides a link to jyotisha through the Dhruva Galactic Center. And my still-limited use of the tools and techniques of Mr. Wilhelm's teachings in my study of jyotisha has proven the value of this choice for ayanamsa.

As it pleases you to do so, I - and perhaps others as I infer from your comment, would benefit from this flexibility in JHora - a wonderful gift to humanity even if you choose no further changes.

dear narasimha,

let me try to explain this. the sun's movement is based upon the tropical zodiac

and seasons, sankrantis and months must be calculated using the sun's entry into

the tropical zodiac , since the sun overlords the rasis .

whilst the moon being lord of the nakshatra has the sidereal zodiac as her

domain and thus you will notice that all nakshatra dasas are based upon sidereal

zodicac position of the moon. now from where the sidereal zodiac beigns from is

an alltogether a different question !

so if nakshtatra dasas were to be calculated using tropical zodiac they simply

fall apart and thus,

rasis need to be calculated using tropical whislt nakshatra positions using

sidereal. nakshatras are basically fixed star in the sky with the tilt being at

about 23 deg and so, while the entire sky as it is in broken down in 12 signs

without the question of precession

ernst wilhelm is the propounder of this method and he uses this as default

setting in his kala software. suppose i have moon in tauras rasi at birth , but

i have moon is bharani nakshatra .so that is the difference.

he recommends calculating all vargas based upon true tropical positions , whilst

calculating dasas for the same chart based upon sidereal position of the moon

and thus , then inter corelating both the tropical vargas and the sidereal

dashas.

hope i got it right,

chandan singh.

Namaste,

I have implemented a mode where you use tropical zodiac, but nakshatras are

fixed in such a way that Spica is always in the middle of Chitra star.

Begignning of Aries can be moving, but the beginning of Aswini star is always

180 deg from Spica.

This will give Vimsottari dasas based on sidereal zodiac and divisional charts

based on tropical zodiac.

Download JHora 7.4 beta4 and check out the ayanamsa option dialog box. There is

a new checkbox.

I will investigate Galactic Center etc for a future release.

Thanks,

Narasimha

dear narasimha ,

many thanks.

this new feature of tropical rasi and sidereal dasha is the best feature to be added to jhora till date , i must say !! ... i used kala software for a while with this feature , but due to its gui , somehow i couldnt derive conclusions properly.

now after using this in jhora , every thing is so crystal clear. specially the vargas match up soo correctly with the right conditional dasha for the specific chart, i think this is the correct way to combine both the sun and moon domains  for a proper vedic reading.

one thing that is also noticable with this system is that of calculation of sankranti dosha at birth. if sankranti is to be calculated siderally , which all of the softwares do today and which is not correct , this would give incorrect estimation of the chart for a particular native and instead of actually seeing other flaws , one would simply say " ohh , you have sankranti dosha , you need to do this n that puja "

but now with sankranti being calculated as per tropical it is much more accurate and gives a correct picture of natal horoscopy.

many thanks and god bless ,

chandan singh.

also , i forgot to mention , varahamihira also used the same way to calculate

rasis and dashas , based upon what ernst found out from certain sutras in the

Dear Narasimha,

The "About Jagannatha Hora" window is displaying properly. Thanks.

I have attached a printscreen of the "Select Ayanamsa" Window. The "Use Sidereal Zodiac for Nakshatras and Nakshatra Dasas when using tropical zodiac. Fix Spica star in the middle of Chitra Nakshatra." window needs to be cleaned up. Portions of the text are not displaying properly--their being chopped off. By the way what do you think of using the Tropical Zodiac for the Rasis and the Sidereal Zodiac for the Nakshatras? Ernst seems to prefer this preference. I made the file a Tiff because the jpeg did not show enough detail.

Best Wishes,

Ellis

Re: Please help

with ayanamsa setup

Thanks,

Narasimha
