It was way back in January 1983, I was to go to the UK on a

fellowship under the Colombo Plan. The Ministry of HRD did not clear

my candidature under this scheme. I had left the matter and it was

all forgotten.

 

In June 83, while visiting a relative in Mathura, I happen to meet

a simple village astrologer. Out of curiosity I told him about my

visit to the UK and how it has been thwarted.

 

He drew a kundali, which later I learnt was a Prashna kundali. He

told me that you will leave for the UK under the same scheme a few

days after Diwali. No power on earth can stop you. Remember it was

in June he told me that; and Diwali wasn't due till late October.

 

I didn't believe in what he said because a matter once turned down

by a Ministry in the Govt is seldom taken up unless one has a

political string to pull. The entire episode of meeting the

astrologer was all forgotten as a casual meeting.

 

In the second week of September I received a letter from the MHRD

asking me to explain a few things about my UK visit. I answered

their queries and my visit was cleared.

Three days after Diwali I left for the UK

 

Normally, in the Govt once a file has been rejected and shelved, it

is no less then a miracle that the file is retrieved, revived,

explanation asked , and later approved.

 

All this was without any of my effort or running around.

 

This is what I guess might have happened. Some well meaning junior

officer in the MHRD might have picked up the file, by chance,

thought of getting a few things explained by me, and might have

pushed up the file for approval at the level of the Secretary.

 

The ministry clearance came to me as a pleasant surprise. It was

then I realized how true that simple village astrologer was. Sure

enough, after the approval of the MHRD there was no one who could

have stopped my visit to the UK.

 

After this, I couldn't but have faith in the ancient art of

divination.

 

After coming back to India in 1985, I started learning Vedic

astrology, and later on moved to Lal Kitab.
