Eritrea suffers worst bus crash

 

 

 

Some 56 people have died in a bus crash in Eritrea in the country's

worst road accident, officials say.

 

Another 30 people were injured in the crash on the road between Adi

Quala and Maimene, about 80km (50 miles) south of the capital Asmara.

 

The overcrowded bus " missed the route and plunged 100m deep beneath the

road, " the Information Ministry said.

 

The injured were taken to hospitals in the southern towns of Adi Quala

and Mendefera, it said.

 

Eritrean Information Minister Ali Abdu said: " It is the biggest accident

in the history of Eritrea, since 1993, " when the country won

independence from Ethiopia.

ASMARA, July 12 (Reuters) - Fifty-six people were killed and another 30

injured in Eritrea when an overloaded bus crashed, causing what is

believed to be the nation's worst road accident, Eritrea's Information

Ministry said late on Monday.
