The recent events in the USA are consistent with what we would expect according to the SAMVA USA chart. There has been a mass murder by a young man in a university and other murders at schools in the USA in this week. While this is explained to a large extent by the affliction of sub-period ruler and 6th lord JUPITER in Sagittarius and 6th house by natal RAHU in Aries and the 10th house (peaked on February 10th, but was within 1° orb yesterday), other transit influences have contributed. In the past few days there has been the growing influence felt of a contemporaneous affliction by transit FM RAHU in early Aquarius of the 8th house to - transit 2nd lord SUN (functional ruler of wealth and communal harmony) in early Aquarius of the 8th house (peaks today) & - transit 10th lord MARS (general indicator of industry and confidence) in early Gemini of the 12th house (peaks on February 25th) These afflictions have also contributed to the US stock market again becoming spooked, this time by news of a drop in US consumer and business confidence (see news item below). The planet MARS has been transiting a bad house since late last year, where it has been weak. This has made the confidence sag. Since early January of this year MARS has been both weak and afflicted by transit RAHU, making its indications vulnerable to setbacks. The bad placement of RAHU is making the affliction more severe. Fortunately, MARS is natally strong in the chart, such that the strains being felt are likely to be temporary. In May MARS will have moved into Cancer and 1st house of the SAMVA USA chart. At that time, its condition, while still weak by being in its sign of debilitation, will be better placed and it will no longer be afflicted, save the aspect from natal 6th lord JUPITER at 4° 25' Scorpio and 5th house in the first part of the month. The recent affliction and bad placement of 2nd lord SUN has further doused hopes for a revival in the US stock market. In fact, just before the weekend, Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the US Federeal Reserve (central bank of the USA) warned the markets that the economy could weaken further. While he assured the markets the Fed would react appropriately, by further reducing the interest rates if this was deemed necessary, the impact of his statement was to make investors more worried about the near term development of the economy - namely, a recession. Indeed, with all indicators of the US government authorities (Sun and Mars) and financial institutions (Sun and Jupiter) afflicted at this time, the banks have also been especially hard hit, with some commentators suggesting the banks would have to write down an additional $200 billion in debts. Banking shares sank on the news. The strain in the US stock market is all the more interesting as stock prices in Europe and Asia have done better in recent days. This development is a clear further confirmation of the efficacy of the SAMVA USA chart.
