Guest guest
10,000 Microsoft.com Hotmail Passwords End Up On the Internet Tuesday, October 06, 2009, 7:30:32 AM *Amazingly over 10,000 hotmail login credentials, including passwords, have ended up on the internet causing many users to fear over the safety of their email accounts. It is a strange case which it appears that the details have been harvested and then made public on the internet.* The case is even stranger as many do not understand why the details would have been made public after they have been stolen from phishing attacks. It does not make a lot of sense as the information would usually be kept secret. However in this instance the details ended up on the Pastebin.com website. In all, there were 10,028 pairs of user names and passwords posted to multiple pages of public upload website Pastebin.com. This is probably only a small section of a much larger haul as the user names only range between letters A and B, from a list in alphabetical order. The internet obviously lit up with rumours as soon as the information first spread. There were claims that all windows live email accounts had been hacked. This we now know was highly exaggerated, however the exact amount of accounts affected has not been confirmed. The leak is most likely the result of miscreants who harvested the passwords using keystroke-logging trojans or phishing scams. A Microsoft spokeswoman confirmed that the company doesn''t store passwords in the clear and said its security team has been investigating the leak since this weekend. " Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers, " she wrote in an email. " As part of that investigation, we determined that this was not a breach of internal Microsoft data and initiated our standard process of working to help customers regain control of their accounts. " The advice to anyone concerned about their account is to reset your password and security questions. -- Sally Spencer Omni Self Healing Vedic Astrology www.Devi3.byregion.net Waves of Love Entering the Planet It's contagious.
