At times it is of two or three rounds instead of conventional single round kara. Therefore a kara like ornament worn on the arm is termed as ananta. In the west Uttar Pradesh there is a festival known as Ananta Chaturdashi [ Bhadra shukla 14 ] when even married men wear an ananta woven of thread on their right arm. This day of Ananta Chaturdashi is for the well being of the children in the family. For Sun + Venus combination wearing of ananta by the wife is advised in case there are any problems regarding progeny [ aurat ke bajoo par sone ka kara, choodi ya ananta qayam karane se santaan mein madad hogi] Now why it has been advised that a wife [ venus ] should wear a gold [ Jupiter ] ananta on the arm [ mars ] ? The book says: Mangal ke bagair shukra ki aulad nahi qayam rahtee hai [ page 535, 1952 urdu ed ; page 186, line # 8 , 1942 urdu ed] Therefore a gold [ Jupiter ] item has been advised because sun + venus form a Jupiter. And it is to be worn on the arm [ mars ] of the wife [ venus ] instead of any chain like thing which could have been worn round the neck. The moment the ends are closed [ kara] and it gets a dayara, mercury becomes a part of it. And I do not think that Pundit ji would suggest any thing blemished by mercury for the well being of ketu [ aulad ]. Since Pundit ji wanted the gold ornament worn on baaju [ arm ],and the ornament worn above the elbow is known as ananta; hence it was specifically mentioned as ananta in the upaya. You may be right that name could have been derived from ananta meaning endless.
