Fingers designated for applying tilak

Hindu scriptures have designated specific fingers for applying tilak for different occasions:

Anamika shanti dokta, madhyama ayush kari bhavet

Angushtha pushtivah prokta, tarjani moksha dayani

Applying tilak with anamika [ring fingure] gives peace.

Applying tilak with the middle finger provides long life.

Tilak applied with the thumb provides strength. That is why vijay tilak [tilak wishing victory] is applied with the thumb.

Tilak applied with the index finger gives moksha, that is why the tilak to a dead body is applied with the index finger and the index finger is also used for tilak during the pinda daan and the Shraddha karma.

Guruji,

in lalkitab context, tilak of milk, curd, kesar, haldi has

been reccomended; which finger should be used for applying tilak of

these respective items.

Regards.

Dear Kulbir ji,

Going by the Karkatwa logic, the tilak of milk [moon], kesar [jupiter] and haldi

[jupiter] should be applied by the ring finger [sun] since the index finger

[jupiter] is meant only for the dead or the ceremonies related with the dead.

The tilak of curds [venus] should be applied by the thumb [venus]

Sincerely,

Bhooshan Priya

Thank You very much Guru Ji,

It was a important knowledge that you shared. Will always keep in mind while applying tilak the next time. And will definetely share this message with friends and family.

Probably that is why they say "Knowledge is Divine"
