Sidereal astrology assigns fixed longitudes to the stars (in Western Sidereal astrology, Aldeberan will always be at 15 Taurus, Regulus at 5 Leo, Spica at 29 Virgo, etc). Tropical astrology assigns 0 Aries to wherever the northern hemisphere's Vernal Equinox point is; unfortunately, the Equinox points move backwards along the Ecliptic at a rate of approximately one degree every seventy two years. As for planets in different houses, that comes from using a different house system. Rahu and Ketu are the Sanskrit names for the Lunar Nodes. I get the impression that Vedic astrology has a richer knowledge of the Lunar Nodes than does Western astrology; like precession-correction and harmonics, Western astrologers would do well to study this, too.
