Any good classes out there?

Hi all!

I've been a listener on this group for awhile, but this recent hubub

about the definitions of Sideral v. Vedic was great to read. I'm

glad to know that I am on the right page.

My understanding of sideral astrology is very limited... I played for

a few years as an amateur in Tropical astrology, but when I ran my

first chart with a sideral zodiac, I was " converted " , so to speak. I

ran a few friends charts as well, and was amazed at the accuracy of

the sideral zodiac. (One friend, who was very resistant to the idea

of being a Cancer and not a Leo, sat down with a highlighter to

review the interpretations the computer gave.. admittedly, not the

best source of interpretation... but still came back with the sideral

interpretation colored far more heavily than the Tropical!)

Since then, however, my astrology studies have hit a brick wall. I

can find very little published information that doesn't rely upon the

Tropical. I would very much like to have a firm command of the

sideral zodiac and its interpretations, but don't know where to

turn. I'm just an amateur and have never attempted transits or

progressions... I've only dealt with natal charts. A lot of the

discussion on this list floats over my head, but at least I'm

learning different areas of discussion!

Is there any source that anyone could recommend as good basic

training in Sideral Astrology? Are there classes anywhere? I'm

located in Seattle, Wa, so I assume I would be searching for

correspondence classes or a good line of books.

Thanks!

Meredith

Meredith,

I am somewhat in the same situation you are concerning sidereal astrology.

Am not aware of any classes that might be available. There are several sites

available that pertain to sidereal astrology. You might try

www.siderealzodiac.com . From there you can access the many links that are

available, one of which is the Western Sidereal Network. Within that link is

a free download by Kay Cavender called " Sidereal.Zip " . It is very

informative. Hope I have helped a little.

Stay well,RJM

I agree whole heartedly with Robert's suggestion of going to

siderealzodiac.com....

Jack's web site is full of stuff....

Also try http://www.magee.demon.co.uk/

There you'll find a lot of Kay's writings which are right there on the main page

easy click and read....

She's been a stalwart for years and has a great collection of Fagan's

writings... She lives in Northern California.

The best book I ever read on Astrology was written by Garth Allen a nom de plume

of Donald Bradley. It also happens to be the smallest book that I have ever seen

on the subject,, It's called " Taking the Kid Gloves off Astrology " . It's a

great book...

Its focus is on the planets.. If you develop an understanding of the " nature "

of planets and then appreciate the various relationships(sextile, trine,

conjunction, square and opposition) that are possible between them, then you're

developing a solid concept to begin with. BTW: Fagan recommended not using

trines and sextiles. So it goes.. Everybody has an opinion......

Track when transits configure the planets in your natal chart....

For example....Mars is transiting currently in Scorpio....

My take on Scorpio is that it can be as simple as passion.

Couple this with Mars(energy/force) and you get strong feelings ....

When I wrote the other day my take on Sidereal Astrology, transiting Mars made a

conjunction(0d) with the South Node of my natal chart. It also made a

trine(120d) to my natal M.C.(Midheaven) & Progressed Venus....But I'm not gonna

get into that right now....

Very little is known about the Nodes in Tropical or Sidereal Astrology in my

opinion.

They can signify various concepts. Everything from public opinion(North Node)

to personal insight(South Node)...

I have not learned much on the nodes. If anyone has knowledge, resources or

suggestions regarding information on the nodes (Lunar and otherwise) please let

me know....

FYI: In Vedic Astrology the nodes are very significant and are an important part

of a reading....

For Fun and for gaining insight .....

Look at your Natal chart and circle the days on the calendar when the transiting

Sun conjuncts the planets, angles and nodes of your Natal chart... or any other

planet for that matter...

As for computerized interpretations...... In my opinion..... Those are written

in the Tropical vein... Do tropical charts with them but not sidereal charts.

It's not advisable to be mixing tropical metaphors with sidereal ones....

Lunar Returns and Solar Returns are a must learn...An important thing to note

about these is that as time passes, the transiting planets make aspects to the

" static " Lunar or Solar Return chart... that's when you can forecast events....

Prime Vertical and Mundoscope charts.... Lots to learn.....

As for classes..... In San Francisco we usually gather once a month and talk

Sidereal... everybody is welcome..... contact sidereal or go to his

siderealzodiac.com web site and tell Jack you want to know when the next meeting

is gonna be... Otherwise.... All those that are interested let me know.... we

can get together in a chat room on a given day at a predetermined time and share

ideas..... With the perspective that everybody is a teacher and everybody is a

student I'm sure everyone will gain as much as they can from the experience....

ciao
