Guest guest
Hello, fellow siderealists. I've been away for a while tied up in a move to a far better location (what would I have done without knowledge of relocation charts?!) It's nice to peek back in and catch up. I'm posting to see if anyone knows a bit about Deep Space Astrology. I'm looking for the Ecliptic longitude and/or latitude of the Super Galactic Center. Can anyone help? Thank you very much in advance and I apologize for this not being a strictly sidereal question. :-) -paola

Can anyone help? Sorry I don't have the exact degree, but from memory the Galactic Centre is currently at 26 or 27 degrees Sagitarius in the tropical zodiac. ------ NICOLE

The Galactic Center is presently* located at 17h 45.6' right ascension, at -28d 56' declination, which translates to 26d 11' Sag tropically, and 1d 24' Sag sidereally, provided I haven't incorrectly used the calculator again. * Not that it's going to move, but right ascension will, as it's measured from the vernal equinox point. Hooray for 'scientists' measuring star positions with an ever-shifting zero point! :/ -- I am the lone locust of the apocalypse. Think of me when you look to the night sky. Guest guest
Whoops! I forgot that right ascension and ecliptic longitude don't align exactly due to the tilt of the Earth. (Example: If two objects are rising at exactly 0 Cap, but separated by several degrees of declination, one will appear over the horizon several minutes before the other, despite being at the same position zodiacally.) Calculating for that, the galactic center (at about 29d S declination) is at approx. 2d 04' Sagittarius (sidereally), at 5d 31' S ecliptic latitude. In retrospect, it probably would have been easier to grab someone's tropical calculation and adjust it to sidereal measurement...
