This has no relationship to the vernal equinox and the ayanamsa. They're totally different concepts. Sri Yukteswar gave various examples of the 'phasing in' of Dwapara Yuga in relation to electrical inventions beginning about 1600, the beginning of the sandhi (junction) period. Yogananda would not have made a mistake in dating in the Forward: 249 Dwapara (A.D. 1949) [page vi] 1949 minus 249 = 1700 beginning of Dwapara The confusion comes in with Sri Yukteswar's discussion of the sandhi periods. Though (according to him) Kali ends in 1699, there is a Dwapara junction (phasing-in) period of 200 years. " In 1899, on completion of the period of 200 years of Dwapara Sandhi, the time of mutation, the true Dwapara Yuga of 2000 years will commence... " (page 14-15) But these dates will be somewhat off because the precessional cycle is about 25,800 years rather than the 24,000 that Sri Yukteswar used. Let's face it: the translation (from Bengali?) of THE HOLY SCIENCE leaves a lot to be desired. I wish SRF would re-do it. Terese
