I thought that when they first went into Iraq. There has been

speculation since before then that Bush consults with members of a

particular breed of Fundamentalist. This particular variety doesn't

just believe that the end is near and that they need to prepare; they

believe it's their duty to hasten it. In doing so, they gain control

over events and secure the saving of their own, the rest be damned.

 

This is all a rumour, mind you. However, given Bush's behaviors to

date, it's not all that far fetched.
