You will probably be hearing a lot more about dig bala (directional strength) and functional malefics and benefics. These are based on the concept of the mathematical relationships of the houses (equal cusps) to the ascendant, and follow pretty closely the 'good' and 'bad' locations for planets as per classical (especially Hellenistic) western astrology. These doctrines don't necessarily conflict with Fagan's system of astrology. They can be used to fill in some of the empty places in the system.
