Well Since it is sidereal, it interests me ;-) I think they use lahiri, don't they? Furthermore, how far from " regular " astrology can they go? -- François

I think they employee some numerology as well as basic astrology. I have heard that it is complex. I do not know enough to form an informed opinion. It depends. There are many different " schools " in the Tibetan system. Leaving the Chinese calculations aside and focusing on the Indian calculations: 1. If they are using an Indian ephemeris they'll use the ayanamsa listed there, which is Lahiri. 2. If they are using a western ephemeris, some will use a common " Tibetan " ayanamsa. This takes the year 285 as the year of coincedence and the formula is: Ayanamsa = (x - 285) * 0.014, where x = the year in question. So, for 2005, this works out to 24° 08'. Lahiri, for 2005, is 23°55' so there is a difference. I say a " common " ayanamsa as there are others equally unrigorous in use also. In any case, whichever is used is applied to the tropical postions in the usuual way. > Furthermore, how far from " regular " astrology can they go? Tibetan astrology is a very complicated series of systems. As to how far they can go, I hate to speculate! Best, Buz
