Taurus as the first sign of the zodiac

I've thought lately the point made by Cyril Fagan, that in the ancient times

Taurus was the first sign in the zodiac. That would make the signs ruled by

the Sun and the Moon, and the signs ruled by Saturn to settle on both sides

of the " MC/IC axis " (I'm putting this in quotes because I'm talking about

whole sign houses). The exaltation / debilitation signs of the Sun and the

Moon would come in both sides of the " ASC/DC axis " .

That made me to start going through again Rudhyar's Pulse of Life

http://www.khaldea.com/rudhyar/pofl/pofl_p1p1.shtml ;

there Rudhyar writes how the zodiac, like all cycles, is alternating between

individualistic " Day Force " and collectivizing " Night Force " . Rudhyar's

point of view is of course strictly tropical, but I thought that if we put

Taurus as the first sign, then the signs ruled by the Lights become the apex

of individualization, the Day Force, and signs ruled by Saturn become the

apex of collectivization, the Night Force. How very fitting! I noticed that

I can read Rudhyar's sign descriptions taking one sign backwards, by making

tropical Gemini roughly as sidereal Taurus, tropical Cancer roughly as

sidereal Gemini etc.

By putting tropical Gemini as the " first house " , we get

- tropical Cancer / sidereal Gemini as the second house of family and

family origins in jyotish. Rudhyar makes a strong point of how " Cancer "

represents the phase where man searches for a partner to settle down and

create his familiar sphere. One needs only think about the loving Gemini

couple, Mithuna in Sanskrit, which points to the word " maithuna " meaning

sexual union. English has several dozens words beginning with " merc " and

most of them point to trading - the second house is traditionally about

money and specially about buying and selling.

- tropical Leo / sidereal Cancer becomes the 3th house of writing (the

Moon), and the house of prowess and performing arts (tropical Leo). It's

also said to represent the quality of the food we eat - the Moon being about

instictual surviving among other things (JackMaker pointed to this too and I

agree).

- tropical Virgo / sidereal Leo becomes the 4th house of inner happiness and

the soul (the Sun) and in traditional Western astrology - the house of

father.

- tropical Libra / sidereal Virgo becomes the 5th house of creativity and

gambling(Mercury).

- tropical Scorpio / sidereal Libra becomes the 6th house of strife; think

about all those war lords with sidereal Libra prominent in their charts.

- tropical Sagittarius / sidereal Scorpio becomes the 7th house of (open)

enemies among other things. It's also traditionally about sex and modern

Western astrologers connect sex mainly with Mars, not with Venus. I wonder

if there's something in it after all...? Mars surely is about testosterone.

By putting Taurus as the first sign we would get both of the main sexual

houses in jyotish, the 7th and the 12th, under signs ruled by Mars.

- tropical Capricorn / sidereal Sagittarius becomes the 8th house of

suffering and chronical illnesses.

- tropical Aquarius / sidereal Capricorn becomes the 9th house of foreign

countries.

- tropical Pisces / sidereal Aquarius becomes the 10th house of mother in

traditional Western astrology.

- tropical Aries / sidereal Pisces becomes the 11th house of plenty

(Jupiter).

- tropical Taurus / sidereal Aries becomes the 12th house of bed pleasures

(enjoyments as with tropical Taurus).
