Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to eastern astrology and was introduced to this group by Therese who also belongs to the AstroDatabank that I belong. I just want to take a quick minute to introduce myself and to say hi to all of you who " have gone before me " in the eastern astrology realm, since today is my very first day stepping in this direction. I have been studying western astrology for years, but have only started accepting clients for the past two years. I mostly apply the evolutionary astrology approach to help clients understand their evolutionary path. I also help folks identify career path options, coupling astrology with knowledge from my master's degree in organizational development. While I learned so much from western astrology, I am still searching for more clarifications and insights to help me with the predictive aspect, since many of my clients are of Asian origins who are also used to and expect the predictive benefit of astrology. One thing that I find most lacking in the books I've read so far is predicting death and health which are of primary concerns to my client base. I was told that eastern astrology has a better grasp of this subject. Am I wrong? Well, this is what I am hoping to find out by venturing over to eastern astrology. Any advice/warning for my new journey towards eastern astrology would be much appreciated. Warm regards, Felicia Hong

Hi Felicia, Welcome to the forum! I'll reply to your post a bit later, but I noted from your member profile that you live in Dublin. I lived in Walnut Creek for almost 20 years before moving to the California mountains in 1995. I sure miss those Bay Area Asian restaurants! This forum has a lot of variety when it's active. Sometimes we're very quiet, but more on that later... (Right now I'm suffering extreme frustration because the ADB download isn't working, and have a ton of backed up work to finish.) Guest guest
Hi, Felicia... Welcome aboard! I don't post here very often, but like to scan the messages, and with elections coming up it's getting interesting. As far as predicting death is concerned, I don't think it's a good idea, as people are generally fearful and neurotic when it comes to that subject. Also, some top astrologers have been wrong about it (even their own deaths) and caused unnecessary angst. Looking forward to reading more of your posts. ....Bettin _____ On Behalf Of Felicia Hong Thursday, March 13, 2008 12:21 PM Newbie introduction Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to eastern astrology and was introduced to this group by Therese who also belongs to the AstroDatabank that I belong. Guest guest
Hi Bettina, Thank you for the warm welcome. I understand your reservation about predicting death, but in your experience, don't your clients ask you about longevity and whether a certain illness will turn for the worse, etc? Many times, it is difficult to totally say no. I normally would attempt to understand how serious is the ill health threat and duration/timeframe, etc., just to give people some clues on what to expect. What has your experience been with this subject and how do you avoid discussing it? Thanks again for taking the time to say hi back. Felicia Bettina <chiria wrote: Hi, Felicia... Welcome aboard! Guest guest
Hi Felicia... Richard Houck was one of the people I was thinking off. I just know he had cancer and I think already knew he had it when he predicted his death, which came earlier than he thought it would. Actually, I'm not a professional. Astrology has been one of my passions for 40 yrs, but the main reason I haven't done it for money is that I don't want to have to predict major things. I'm more interested in seeing the horoscope as a general blueprint for the personality/psyche. In some small ways I predict things in my own life and the lives of my family members and friends, like if I see Mars coming up to the asc...time to be more cautious than usual regarding injuries. That sort of thing. I once had an acquaintance from India. His mother had had his horoscope cast when he was a baby and the astrologer told her he would live to be 63. When he came close to that age he consulted another astrologer and asked if he was still destined to die at that age. The second astr. said that because he was living a good life and helping others he was getting an extension. Last I heard he was in his 70s and still kicking. So... was the first astr a bs-er and the second one was just adding to the bs, or is there really some leeway and we can change our fate? ....Bettina _____ On Behalf Of Felicia Hong Saturday, March 15, 2008 11:19 AM RE: Newbie introduction Hi Bettina, Thank you for the warm welcome. Guest guest
Right you are, Therese; there are times in life that could be called " perforated lines " , when there's an increased possibility that we can leave, but it's not 100% for sure. Probably on a soul level we can make a choice then. ....Bettina _____ On Behalf Of Therese Hamilton Saturday, March 15, 2008 2:28 PM RE: Newbie introduction At 11:43 AM 3/15/08 -0700, Bettina wrote: >... Sort of like choosing the date and time your jet takes off. If you have very strong ties to others in your life or really, really don't want to leave yet, I would suppose you'll take a later flight. On the other hand, if you're not happy with life and have a serious illness, you may just want to 'give in' and take the closest date. I think this happens a lot with couples who have been married a long time. If one of the partners dies, often the other will follow within a year or so. There are stories in Yogananda's AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI where a master deliberately extended the life of an individual for one reason or another. Most likely the reasons that astrologers usually can't see a definite death date in a chart is because (1) Each symbol has so many different meanings and (2) We really do have some choice in the matter.
